50 DIY Days: No Sew Bow

Day 13: Yes! The No Sew Bow! I’m sure you’ve seen these little sweeties wandering the Pinterest world… I wanted to share how I create these sweet little felt bows…. no sewing required! Hot glue! I’m hoping the images above give a pretty good idea of how I create these…. but, just in case… here are some simple directions.
Supplies:
– Felt
– Hair clips
– Scissors
– Hot glue + hot glue gun
Directions:
– Cut out 3 strips of felt at these measurements: 3.5″ x 1/2″ and 3.5″ x 1/4″ and 2.5″ x 1/2″.
– Cut out a “v” into each end of the 2.5″ x 1/2″ piece. Set aside.
– Grab the 3.5″ x 1/2″ piece. Squeeze a tiny tiny dot of hot glue in the center. Pinch together (see image above). Next you will fold back each side of the felt and glue to the back of the pinched section (see image above).
– Take the folded bow piece you just created and glue it to the center of your 2.5″ x 1/2″ piece.
– Next take the 3.5″ x 1/4″ piece and glue it to the center of the bow. Fold it around to the back of the bow and glue.
– Finally: glue your finished bow onto the hair clip.
– You’re done! Now, enjoy!
Cost: I already had all these items in my supplies… but, I could guess the cost would be about .50 cents a bow!
Time: 10 minutes a bow.

No Heat Curl video! Free.

Hi friends! I woke up the other day to a few emails in the inbox all with the same subject line: No Heat Curl. That was curious… All of them were telling me the same thing: the No Heat Curl video is either private now OR that the lady is charging $30 to view. SO… I knew right away I just needed to create my own video. While I’m happy for this lovely lady and I hope she’s making some money…. I just don’t want a video on my blog that you all would have to pay $30 to watch.
So, there you go. I hope my video helps! I do this No Heat Curl ALL the time. I added a couple of tips to the video from all the practice I’ve had with it: Not wrapping my bangs all the way, putting my hair up when it’s damp, using the Aquage defining gel in wet hair, and pinning up that last little bit of hair in the back of the head that’s hard to curl. Enjoy!

Respect the Roll

Thank you to Cottonelle for encouraging me to Respect The Roll by sending me these awesome roll covers and Cottonelle Clean Care product and sponsoring my creativity. You can enter to win roll covers yourself by visiting Cottonelle’s Facebook page!

I’ve said it before… and, I’m about to say it again: my home is TAH-iny (I’m talking less than 950 sq. ft.). Closets weren’t a common thing built into a house in 1920 and…. they certainly did not include them in our home. In later years a very small closet was added to Ruari’s room… and, after we bought our home we built one in our living/dining area (where we currently keep the majority of our clothes).
The bathroom is no exception. No closets. Just a couple of ikea cabinets. No where to place our toilet paper except on an open shelf. Time to respect the roll for sure! AND: keep the roll safe and dry for our naughty/curious toddler… many many times I’ve found an entire roll of TP spread through out the home. 🙂 Cottenelle has created these roll covers and sent me a three covers to get creative with in my home… oh, I did!

First I placed the roll cover on the toilet (obvious spot… I know)… then, I thought maybe I could see if I could incorporate the other parts of the home…. maybe….

Then…. I thought… hmmm, I bet one of these containers would be perfect to store Ruari’s crayons….

AND… then, I really lost my mind and decided to get WAY to creative with the whole thing…. I turned the 3rd one into a little mushroom container! I can use this mushroom container to both RESPECT the roll and even in Ruari’s room for storage.

Ruari’s room has a woodsy/Pacific NW theme. SO, it works perfect for storage. BUT, it will also fit into our bathroom just fine. This little mushroom was made with felt, a little paint, the container, and some sewing.
Do you Respect the Roll? I do now! 😀 You can check out more Respect the Roll info here. AND, visit their facebook page!

50 DIY Days with Rocky Mountain Mama: Yarn Poinsettia Wreath

Day 11: Hello! I am the author of Rocky Mountain Mama. I am married to my best friend and I am a part-time working mother to 2.5-year-old Christopher. I blog about balancing life as a working mother and dealing with all the stresses that come with it. When I do find “me” time, I am either organizing or working on one of many craft projects.

Materials:
– Foam wreath {I used a 14″ wreath}
– White yarn
– Red & green felt
– Silver, round stickers or beads {I found these great scrapbooking stickers that worked perfectly}
– Glue gun

Directions:
1. Put a dab of hot glue on whatever side you decide is the back and attach the end of your yarn.

2. Get a glass of wine and turn on the TV. Then, start wrapping. Make sure you keep your yarn in nice, straight, tight lines.

3. Wrap some more.
Tip: I found that if I wrapped the yarn through the wreath a bunch of times and then {neatly} pushed all the yarn together, it seemed to go a lot faster.

4. Once you have finally made it all the way around your wreath, add another drop of glue to the back of the wreath and attach the end of the yarn. Then snip it off your spool of yarn.

Now, if you are insane, like I am, you may choose to go around once more using loser loops. The reason for this is to make your wreath look a little more chunky. I kept going back and forth about whether or not I liked it, but I am so glad I decided to go around once more. Now that it’s finished, I am super happy with how it turned out.

 5. Make a template for your poinsettia flower petals. I had old file folders sitting around from this project, so I used those to draw my petals.

Remember that you are going to want many different sizes of poinsettias. And each poinsettia needs two different size petals. I ended up making 5 different size petals.

6. Use your template to trace 5 petals onto your red felt. Cut out your petals.

 8. Put together your petals.

There are a couple different ways you can put your poinsettias together. One way requires a needle and craft thread. If you are not saavy with a needle and thread, skip ahead. The other option is to use a hot glue gun.

Glue Gun Option {must easier}:

1. Take one {smaller} petal and put a tiny drop of hot glue near the flat end.

2. Pinch the corners together and hold until glue is set. Repeat for remaining petals.

3. Arrange larger petals in star shape and hot glue corners together.

Tip: You can also cut out a small circle and attach it to the back of your large petals for added support.

4. Arrange smaller petals on top of your “star” and glue into place.

5. Add 3 silver stickers/beads in the center of your poinsettia.

6. Cut leaves out of green felt and arrange on the back of your flower.

Needle & Thread Option:

1. Using a needle and craft thread, sew the petals together.

2. Push all petals together and knot the thread.

3. Attach the first and last petals together using one more stitch, then knot the thread.

Do this with both sizes of petals.4. Attach smaller petals to larger petals using a dab of hot glue.

5. Add 3 silver balls in the center of your poinsettia.

6. Cut out leaves and arrange them on the back of your flower.

9. Arrange your poinsettias on wreath. Pin in place.

I decided not to glue my flowers onto my wreath, because this way, I could change out the flowers depending on the season.

Total cost of this project: $12!

Thank you SO much to Triana from Rocky Mountain Mama! What a LOVELY guest post. I want one of those wreaths for myself. 😀 Thank you for joining my 50 DIY Days of Christmas!
