Goodbye Google Reader.

Google Reader + Google Friend Connect are officially kaput. July 1st marked the end. For me it all ended in January. Google Reader stopped updating my blog post feed for all of my first followers (from when I was on blogspot). So, if you were one of the lovely readers that emailed me asking why my blog stopped updating…. that’s why. I could not figure out how to fix the problem. For whatever reason I can’t get my blogspot feed to transfer to my new feed. It did it for a year, then quit. Bleh.

SO, if you were an old subscriber (and moved your Google Reader feed to feedly or BlogLovin’) and still aren’t getting updated feeds from me, I think you’ll just need to subscribe to my .com now. Pretty sure my old URL (.blogspot) completely gave up and now it just needs to be updated by hand. Darn it all.

To make it easy, here’s a list of many ways to follow the ‘ol blog….

– On Bloglovin’

Feedly

– Choose how you want to follow through RSS.

– Via email subscription.

– My newsletter.

– Or, good ‘ol fashioned bookmark.

Updated About Me

Once upon a time I started this blog, wrote an ‘about me’ section, and never ever updated it. The end. Yeah. That’s the story. I think I may have updated my photos once or twice, but never updated the info. Ridiculous. Ha! Check it out if you have a moment.

Updated F.A.Q. section.

What’s that? You didn’t know I had one? WELL, I do. It was just poorly put together and really didn’t answer anything. It’s now updated. Yay! So many things checked off my super long to-do list. I’m hoping this updated section will answer any questions some of you have, since I’m a bit terrible at keeping my email in check.

Andplusalso: I’ve added a ton more info about contributing posts. I get a ton of emails about this, and they sometimes get lost in the crazy black hole that is my email. I’m hoping this will help organize things for quicker responses on my end. P.S. Some of you had asked, and I am gathering ideas/posts for my 50 DIY Days of Christmas right now. I always try to start in June/July.

Check out the F.A.Q. section and enjoy.

4th of July Kid-Friendly Sparkler Wand

4th of July Sparkler Wand // thepapermama.com

The 4th means fireworks. Fireworks mean fire. Kid doesn’t like fire. Sorta a good thing for me, but makes it difficult during firework season. So, that’s what the Kid-Friendly Sparkler Wand is for. I don’t want her to feel left out while we play with sparklers. It took me 5 minutes to make and I used all items I already had around the home. Bam.

4th of July Sparkler Wand // thepapermama.com

Supplies:

– Paper straw

– Crepe or tissue paper

– 2 pipe cleaners (I only had one silver and one blue, so I worked with what I had)

– Hot glue

– Optional: Washi tape

Directions:

– Roll out about 4 feet of crepe paper. Fold the paper into roughly 3 inch sections. Cut the looped parts. Snip one end of the crepe pieces to make 2 inch strips. ::see image below::

4th of July Sparkler Wand // thepapermama.com

– Pick out one pipe cleaner to fold 5 points to make the star portion of the wand. Tie the end together to make the star.

4th of July Sparkler Wand // thepapermama.com

– Push the other pipe cleaner through the straw. Tie one end of the straw pipe cleaner to one side of the star. Adjust the star and tie the pipe cleaner to the other end of the straw to secure it. Optional: use some washi tape to cover the tied pipe cleaner portion.

4th of July Sparkler Wand // thepapermama.com

– Hot glue the crepe paper pieces to the straw just below the star. ::caution: hot glue is hot::

– Optional: wrap some washi tape around the crepe paper frills to secure/cover glue.

– Hand to your kiddo to celebrate the fun holiday!

This shouldn’t take too long to make and costs just about nothin (even if you don’t have all the supplies).

Enjoy!

Alt Summit NYC: Business card collections

Every time I head to a conference I get a TON of business cards from very lovely and talented people. I keep many of them for future reference, but really some get lost/torn up by my kiddo. SO, why haven’t I taken photos of my past cards? It seems like I should. Take photos, link, and collect my cards on Pinterest. Bam. Need to look up someone? I got it all organized. All of these ladies (and a couple of dudes) worked hard to create these mini masterpieces, and I want to remember them.

My first round of bizz cards are from Alt Summit in NYC 2013. A crazy collection of cool people. See a card you like? I highly suggest wandering to their site. Because I always see patterns/similarities in things… I had to organize the similar cards into groups. So many different ways I could have organized these, but these were my favorite.
