My daughter just turned 5 and her room has been desperately in need of a makeover. She is almost too long for her toddler bed and we’ve been using part of her room as storage (our home is tiny), so I feel like the room hasn’t really been her own space. It’s time to change that.
I’ve teamed up with the lovely Wayfair and we’ve been working on her room makeover. I chose items that a little 5-year-old will love now, and when she gets older (I’m pretty sure there will less unicorns and mermaids, and more boy band posters if she’s anything like me as a preteen). We are just finishing up and I can’t wait to share the final result with you guys. We painted the ENTIRE room (I’m talking floor to ceiling) and have most of the furniture built and installed.

Over the summer my husband and I gave one wall in our kitchen a makeover. Our home is lacking in the storage department, so we created a mini pantry in the tiniest nook in our kitchen (with the help of Home Depot). It turned out perfect and added some much needed storage for pantry items we use daily. We also managed to fit 3 small cupboards above the pantry shelves to store any items we use less often.
In addition to the extra storage the new addition has made the space lovely and added a bunch of color to the room. I smile each time I see it. My favorite part is the new Citrus Stamped Wall painted wall behind the shelving. I was originally inspired by this citrus stamped wall on the A Beautiful Mess blog and I wanted to create my own version in my home. I made the stamps out of insulation foam using an X-acto knife, a dremel, and using a citrus illustration as a template.

STEP 1:
Print out the free printables I provided.
Note: if you’d like the citrus to be smaller adjust the scale before you print.
STEP 2:
Place one citrus shape over the foam, and trace it with a pen. This will hopefully leave an indent in the foam. Remove the paper and trace the indents with your pen (so they are easier to see).
STEP 3:
Let’s start making that stamp! I used a combination of an X-acto knfe and Dremel to make mine. You don’t have to have a Dremel, but it really helped me. You’ll be cutting out any white space from the printable.
Repeat the above step for the remaining stamps.
When you’re done making the stamps, use the X-acto knife to cut a few lines into the stamp shape. This helps prevent the stamp from suctioning onto the wall when it’s wet with paint.
Side note: You don’t have to use all of the stamps, I didn’t. It all depends on your taste.
STEP 4:
Start with the solid full orange and sliced orange stamps (using the lighter orange color). Let them dry completely.
STEP 5:
Use the darker orange to stamp the orange outline.
STEP 6:
Use the green paint to stamp the leaves.
You’re done! Enjoy your hand stamped citrus wall.

Eating healthy all the time is just hard for me, especially when I want cheese and fried chicken and all the chocolate. I don’t eat like that all the time, but when the husband and I don’t have a dinner plan we tend to just do something quick (and it’s not always the healthiest quick dinner). I made this Meal Plan Board to finally organize our weekly meals. With a plan we head to the grocery store less often and we save money because we aren’t buying a bunch of random items. I added 3 envelopes to the board to hold any favorite meals, a spot to add suggestions for dinner, and a blank paper section.
Supplies needed to make this DIY (I made this for the HP Create site):

STEP 1: Iron out the 20 x 24 inch section of fabric.
STEP 2: Let’s stretch the fabric onto the canvas.
A. Place the fabric (print side facing down) on a flat surface. Center the canvas (canvas side down) on the back side of the fabric.
B. Fold the fabric over one side of the back of the canvas. Use your staple gun to staple the folded fabric to the wood. On the opposite side of the side you just stapled, pull the fabric tight and secure the fabric to the wood with more staples.
Repeat the above step on the other two sides.
C. How do you get those nice folded fabric corners?
Pinch one fabric corner and make a 45 degree corner along the edge (I chose to put my folds along the top and bottom of the frame).
Fold the excess fabric on the back, hold the corner and check the fabric on the front of the canvas before stapling. If it looks good, staple the folded fabric to the back of the frame.
Repeat the above step to all four corners.
Tip #1: if you didn’t get the fabric tight enough, or mess up, you can easily remove the staples with a flathead screwdriver to fix.
STEP 3:
On the back of the left side of the frame, measure in about 3 inches. Use the staple gun to attach the ribbon to the wood.
Fold the ribbon over the front of the frame, bring the end to the back, and staple the end to the wood frame.
Repeat that step on the other side of the frame.
STEP 4: Print out the Sunday through Saturday printable. Cut out the days, then use the hot glue gun to attach the words to the clothespins. Cut out the “suggestions”, “favorites”, and “Blank” words. Hot glue the words onto the envelopes. Cut off the flaps of the envelopes.
STEP 5: Clip the days of the week onto the left sided ribbon. Clip the envelopes onto the right side ribbon with the three extra clothespins.
STEP 6: Cut out a few 3 inch wide by 1.5 inch wide sections of paper. These will be your dinner ideas! Use your pen to write out favorite dinners and clip them onto the days.

Oh man. I just took the longest break from my blog since… well, since I started it in 2010. I really needed it and I feel refreshed and ready to get back into things. It’s a new year, my family and I are happy/healthy, and I’m attempting to accept the fact that I’m getting further and further away from the age 30… I’ll be 32 on the 1st. How did that happen? Speaking of, how do I suddenly have a 5 year old? My little girl turned 5 over the Christmas break. That means kindergarten is right around the corner. Side note: I also haven’t been on email, so if you sent something over to me… I still haven’t finished going through the inbox. It’s crazy over there.
Anywho, I’m kicking off my return with a new DIY for the Better Homes and Gardens blog. It’s a simple makeup organization for small spaces. I say it all the time, but we don’t have much space in the home. We can’t afford to store things on our countertops and we use most of the cupboard shelving space. SO, to ease the bathroom crowding a bit I organized my makeup ON the inside of the cupboard door. Yup. Head on over to the original post to check it out.
