Floral Drink Umbrella Stirrers

Drink Umbrella Stirrer // thepapermama.com

Do you remember my umbrella drink stirrers? Well I had a few emails asking if I could provide a blank umbrella so they could be customized for any party you have. I made 3 new umbrellas for today’s post. A blank umbrella, an uncolored flower umbrella, and a colored floral drink umbrella stirrers. The blank umbrellas are a fun for kids to color! My daughter colored a couple flower umbrellas, and I made a “Happy Birthday” umbrella with some crayons.

These umbrellas are perfect for any occasion: bridal or baby shower, birthdays, weddings, and Tuesdays.

Supplies:

Directions:

  • Print out the umbrella printables. If you print out the blank sheet, color and decorate your umbrellas.

  • Cut out the umbrella shape (make sure you don’t cut off the tab).

  • Fold each line of the umbrella down.
  • Punch a hole in the center of the umbrella.
  • Hot glue the umbrella to the top of the wooden skewer (glue the umbrella on the uncolored side to the skewer), leaving a 1/4″ of the skewer sticking out over the umbrella printout. Tip: you could also glue these umbrellas to straws!
  • Trim the skewer to the desired length and decorate your favorite drink.

Paper Berry Pie Decorations (with free printables)

Paper Berry Pie Decorations (with free printables)

It’s summertime, a.k.a. fruit pie time! I love pie. I love the slightly salty crust with the sweet and tart fruit. Mmmmm, seriously so good. The thing with pies, it’s hard to tell what kind of pie you’re serving under that beautiful crust. A couple years ago I went to a wedding that served a variety of pies instead of a wedding cake. They had labels, but I think my little paper berry pie decorations would definitely get the job done. “Oh look, a cute strawberry is sitting on that pie. I bet that’s a strawberry pie!” Ta dah! Ha. Just in case you like crazy pies with more than a couple fruits, I’ve made a blank swirl printable. Enjoy all the pie you’ll be decorating!

Fruity Mod Podge Planter DIY

Fruity Mod Podge Planter DIY // thepapermama.com

Do you love indoor herb gardens? Well, I made this Fruity Mod Podge Planter DIY for the HP Create blog and I love the pop of color it’s added to my kitchen. My husband (the cook in this family) uses rosemary in most of our meals, so I figured this would be the perfect herb to keep in the home. If it get’s too large, we’ll just transplant it outside. Random fact alert: Rosemary can repel bugs in chicken coops, so we mix rosemary clippings into our coop shavings. We currently have 5 rosemary plants growing. Hee.

Plastic Travel Envelope Purse DIY // thepapermama.com

I travel quite a bit and I feel like every time I go to the airport… I suddenly can’t find ANYthing I need. Where’s my ID? Where did I put my phone? I even lose track of my tickets. It’s a mess, so that’s why I made this cute plastic travel envelope purse DIY for HP Create! I put all the items I KNOW I’ll need for my travel day right into this little guy. Phone, ID, Tickets, some lipgloss, maybe a cute photo of the kiddo, and whatever essential small travel item I need. It fits easily into my purse, or it has straps so I can carry it around my shoulder like a purse. It’s so convenient. You can find the full tutorial here.

Glass Painting Party + a $50 Michaels Gift Card GIVEAWAY!

glass painting party // thepapermama.com

Have you ever painted on glassware? I absolutely love doing this. It’s so much fun, so I invited a bunch of my buddies over for a little glass painting party! I made a printout of designs they could use on their own glassware (if they wanted them), or they could completely make their own design (my friend free hand painted a lovely beard). I’ve been really wanting to get a monthly craft club going, so this was sort of the perfect practice.

While we were painting, we ate lunch and sipped on some Starbucks Discoveries Iced Café Favorites™. Starbucks was awesome and provided the party goers and I with some delicious coffee to drink. We had 3 flavors to enjoy: Caramel Macchiato, Vanilla Latte, and Caffe Mocha. Out of all the flavors the Vanilla was the party favorite. I’m usually a straight up espresso drinker, but this Iced Vanilla Latte is good. Perfect for the warm weather. In addition to drinking the iced coffee, I’ve been using this iced coffee to make some pretty yum treats. I made a coffee milkshake and some biscotti with a coffee glaze drizzle. So delicious.

If you’re loving the glassware we painted, I made a printable so you can make your own. Maybe throw your own glassware painting party? You just print out the images, cut out the design you like, and tape it to the inside of the glass. That way you can trace the design with the point on your Martha Stewart Glass Paint. The baking directions are SO easy. Head on over to my Splatter Painted Glass DIY to check out how to bake these.

DIY Splatter Painted Glassware!

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

The 80’s called and they want their DIY splatter painted glassware back! Ha! Do you remember spatter painting all the things? I do. I decided to flashback to my childhood and make some splatter painted glassware for my yummy drinks. I’m using Martha Stewart Glass Paint for this project because I’ve worked with it a lot and it’s worked perfect for me in the past. Are you, like, totally ready to get started?

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

Supplies:

Directions:

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

1. Measure down from the lip of the glassware to roughly 2 inches and use the washi tape to tape off a circle around the glassware. Use the painters tape to cover the remaining lip of the glassware and the opening of the glass. Note: the reason why we tape off the glassware around the top is this paint should not go where you will put your mouth. The paint is not food safe.

Use the rubbing alcohol and cotton ball to clean the part of the glass you’re painting. This removes all the dirt and grease you can’t see.

2. Set up your paint space. Place your drop cloth down. This can get pretty messy, so I suggest doing this outdoors if you can. If not, just use a large drop cloth.

Squirt some paint into a paint tray and use the toothbrush and hard bristled paintbrush to spray and splat on paint.

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

There are two ways to do this: dip the toothbrush/paintbrush into the paint. Brush your fingers along the bristles to spray tiny paint droplets onto the glass. Flick the brushes to splat paint drops and stripes onto the glass.

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

Repeat the above with each different paint color you use. Let the paint dry completely. I recommend 2 hours to be ready for the next step.

Splatter Painted Glassware // thepapermama.com

3. Remove all the washi and painters tape. Place a stripe of washi tape right over the splatter and another strip 1/4 inch up from there. Paint 3 – 4 coats of paint for the horizontal stripe (allowing 10 minutes dry time between each coat). Right after the last coat, carefully remove the washi tape. Note: I like to remove the tape right away. If you wait too long to remove the tape, it could pull up the painted stripe you just made.

4. Optional: Print out the Painted Glassware Words printable. Cut out the size/word you’d like to put on your mug. Use washi tape to tape the words to the INside of the glass. Paint out the words with the tip of the glass paint tube. Let dry for over one hour.

5. Let the paint dry for over an hour. When the paint is dry, it’s time to bake. The following directions are from the Martha Stewart paint site for baking her paint (side note: you cannot bake fine glitter paint): “Let project air dry 1 hour, place in cool oven. Set temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for 30 minutes (glass must heat gradually). After 30 minutes, turn oven off. Let glass cool completely in oven. Wait 72 hours before using.”

6. When you’re glassware is done, wash it. You can wash this painted glassware on the top shelf of your dishwasher. I’ve washed past painted projects many times (using this baked paint), and the paint looks just as good as it did on the day I painted it. Note: before putting the painted glassware in the dishwasher, make sure the actual glass is dishwasher safe.

7. You’re now ready to enjoy this thing! I suggest adding Starbucks Discoveries Iced Café Favorites™ – Caffe Mocha (cause yum). How cute would these be for party favors?

I hope you enjoy.

Painted Word Canvas DIY (with free printables to makes your own)

Painted Word Canvas DIY // thepapermama.com

So yesterday I created a Photo Canvas DIY (2 ways) for the BHG blog, but my original plan had been to make a third canvas. I ended up having a little painting accident with this third canvas… So I just had to share this DIY later: my Painted Word Canvas. Well, later is today. I know you’ve seen this all over Pinterest (I have), and it was time I tried it. It’s pretty fun! I love the look. I went pretty basic and just used white paint for my project, but why not go crazy and add all the colors? That would be fun. Below I’ve shared a printable quote and an image for you to make your own, but you can definitely use your own image/quote (I use the Kankin font)! I just wanted to make it easy for you. Ok, here’s how I did it:

Painted Word Canvas DIY // thepapermama.com

Supplies:

Directions:

Painted Word Canvas DIY // thepapermama.com

– Print out the image on your photo paper. Print out the quote on the sticker sheet. In a well ventilated area (wearing a mask and protective eyewear), spray one layer of acrylic sealer onto the printed image. Note: the acrylic spray will help keep the printed image from running (and also makes it easier to peel the word stickers off).

– Trim the image to the size of your canvas. Spread a light layer of Mod Podge on the top of the canvas. Carefully place the photo onto the canvas. Let the glue dry for over an hour.

Painted Word Canvas DIY // thepapermama.com

– Cut out your sticker letters. I just use scissors for this, but you can also use an x-acto knife and cutting mat. Arrange the letter stickers onto the glued photo on the canvas. Make sure all the letter sticker edges are pressed down (so paint doesn’t sneak under there).

Painted Word Canvas DIY // thepapermama.com

– Paint 2 – 3 layers of the white acrylic paint over everything (top and sides of canvas). Let this dry COMPLETELY! It’s pretty important to let everything dry. If you don’t, the stickers may tear and paint smear. I waited 12 hours. Note: most stickers should peel off fairly easy, but if they don’t you can use an x-acto knife to encourage the stickers to peel up. If any white acrylic paint peels up, touch up any mistakes with a small paintbrush.

You are done. Fun, right? There’s something satisfying about peeling those letter stickers off the canvas and seeing your masterpiece appear!
