Surprise Ball: For Your Dude

Surprise Ball: For You Dude // thepapermama.com

I have been struggling with what to name this thing… I  mean. How do I even name this without it sounding dirty? It was hard, but I think I did it. Say hello to the Surprise Ball: For Your Dude. Yup. It’s a surprise ball…. for your man. Ha! A man surprise ball package (see dirty, or maybe it’s just me).

What’s a surprise ball you ask? Well, it’s a ball of crepe paper and goodies. Typically these are for kids. In fact, I made about 10 kiddo surprise balls for R’s birthday party in December. The kids LOVED them. They were all distracted for a good 34 minutes. For Christmas I made a “lump of coal” for my uncle. It pretty much had everything in it as this ball, but in the center was a gift card.

This last week my husband celebrated his birthday. SO, I thought this would be a fun for me fun gift for him. I filled the ball with all things he can use and likes. I took a before picture…

What was in there? Well…

– two small packages of coffee

– shaving Cream

– two 5 hour energy bottles

– Siracha

– Ranch Corn Nuts

– pumpkin seeds

– a whole package of Reese’s easter eggs….

– beef stick

– four Slim Jims

– two pairs of socks

– 8 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

– 8 Kit Kat Bars

– a bottle of Session beer

– small deodorant

– chapstick

– annnnnnd gum

Crepe Paper

How do you make a surprise ball?

You need quite a bit of crepe paper. I used 5 rolls of black and one roll of white. I didn’t pay attention to how much was in each roll, but I’d say getting 6 – 7 would be safe. Try and put the larger items in the center. Some people like to do one continuos strip of crepe paper. I don’t. I tore off 1 – 2 yard sections to wrap each prize. I started with the Siracha, then shaving cream, and beer. From there I just tried to place items to make it look more like a ball. The socks and snack bags were helpful to soften corners. Wrap, wrap, wrap. Surprisingly… it only took just over an hour to wrap the whole thing.

Surprise Ball Wrap

When you’re done maybe add a bow? Pretty ribbon wrapped around it? A tag? Give to your favorite dude in your life, and have fun. If you’re curious about the actual scale of this surprise ball I placed my Chihuahua, Angus, next to it. He’s 6 pounds. P.S. he always looks terrified.

Surprise Ball

ALRIGHT! Happy Monday to all of you. Have you ever made or received a surprise ball?

52 Weeks of Drawing: Catching up, again!

I’m behind on my 52 weeks of drawing challenge… again! Ha. BUT, that’s what’s great about this challenge… from the beginning I told myself to NOT stress about this. If I had to miss a week, it’s cool. If you have to miss a week: it’s cool. I love this challenge. Taking time to draw for myself (since I mostly work on custom illustrations).

Tool

Week 6: Tool Hmmm…. not sure if a jar is a tool… I guess it is. I’ve been canning quite a bit recently. I love it! I’ll share some recipes/photos soon.

52 Weeks of Drawings: Something you Love

Week 7: Something You Love For the something I love week I drew my beautiful daughter. It’s SO hard to draw someone you REALLY know. I mean, I know all her features and personality… it just means that this illustration took twice as long as a normal drawing. I can’t wait to add some color!

52 weeks of drawing: your name... chelsey

Week 8: Your Name This was a simple illustration for this week (also known as a cheat week, ha). I really have been wanting to practice hand drawn fonts.

What about you, have you been following along in my 52 Weeks of Drawing? You don’t have to DRAW each week, I’m just hoping my prompts will inspire you to do something creative! Photography? Crafting? Whatever. Click here to see all my prompts, and feel free to link up.

Next is week 9: Draw your fave book. Draw the book itself, or a scene from the book.

Wednesday goodies: balance tape

3

2

Last weekend I was losing my mind with the crazy kid running around the house. I had quite a few deadlines I needed to meet, and the craziness was very distracting. Ha! SO, a random desperate thought came to mind: hmmm… she loves to balance, tell the husband to put a line of tape on the floor. Let’s pretend-balance!

It was a success. She was distracted, got a bit of energy out, and I got some work done. We’ve had the tape down since Saturday and she still loves it. I’ll probably pull it up this weekend, so I don’t have to deal with goopy tape later. BUT, for now… she gets a week of balance fun. Maybe we’ll try this trick again in a few months?

Three in one outfit: Aunt Louise + $100 Visa GC Giveaway!

I have traveled more in this last year than I have in the past 10 years before that. Every time I head out on a trip, I have this desire to buy all new outfits! I do not need to spend money on clothes for each and every trip (I mean, really), even though I want to. Ha! It’s just not necessary. I have a ton of lovely clothes at home and I try to create new and updated ways to wear the clothes I already have. WHICH means I need to take care of my clothes. My favorite pieces (my “fancy” clothes) are always hung to dry. I wash them in the washer, and line dry them to help preserve the quality.

In my attempt to save money and use what I already have, I like to see how many ways I can wear a favorite piece from my wardrobe. One of my best dress friends (yeah, my dresses and I are friends) is Aunt Louise. Yup. She’s been named. She’s fantastic. She’s lovely and sort of looks like she might have been made from the upholstery of a 60’s sofa…. oh man, I do love this dress.

Here’s my three-in-one outfit styling for Aunt Louise (P.S. I just did not want to put make-up on, so I now have a cat face):

Warm Weather: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Gold clutch: f21 // Shoes: Miz Mooz //

This is the perfect warm weather outfit. This dress is so comfortable and I love to wear it without a cardigan, as long as the weather is over 70. Ha!

Springy Weather: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Green bow sweater shirt: f21 // Gold scaly belt: thrift // Shoes: Lulu’s //

Sometimes I like to pretend this dress is a skirt…. that’s when I put on my little green bow sweater shirt and my amazing gold belt (a favorite thrift find).

Warm: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Scallop Cardigan: Anthropologie // Green Peter Pan Tights: h&m // Shoes: Skunkboy’s Closet //

This is my cool spring weather outfit. Most Oregon spring days are cool…. we get the random warm day, but mostly you’ll want a sweater (and probably an umbrella) while you’re out and about.

So, speaking of keeping my clothes… I was ALSO sent some Tide Pods. They are sort of like the lazy man’s detergent… which is fantastic! I’m personally not a fan of chores… laundry is right up there with cleaning the bathroom. Tide Pods makes my life easier. It’s a 3-in-1 detergent that cleans, brightens, and fights stains. Bam. Pretty much you just pop in that Tide Pods pac, and then you can stand out in your freshly awesome clothes. And they’re only 3-chamber unit dose on the market. Just one removes more stains than 6 caps of the liquid bargain brand. (Based on stain removal performance of one pac of Tide Pods vs. 6 doses of the leading liquid bargain brand base variant in a standard top loading machine.) I put these little pods in a cute jar in the laundry room. SO much cuter than a plastic jug of laundry detergent. Have you tried these yet?

One more thing: Tide Pods wants to give one of my special readers a $100 Visa Gift card to play with! Yeah! You can buy a new outfit and some Tide Pods! Just answer this question in the comments below: Tell me about something in your wardrobe that’s versatile and provides 3-in-1 style.

Bird Nest Helper

6

Yesterday the kiddo and I made a little gift for the birds. When I was little I ALWAYS wanted to do this: a bird nest helper. Yarn bits and grass/branch pieces for our feathered friends. Not that they need the help… but it was fun! SO, during my research for this project, I found out a few things. First, you probably want to use all natural materials for this. As in… no acrylic/rayon yarn. I used wool and cotton. I also read: don’t use dryer lint. Dryer lint tends to fall apart and disintegrate, and this can create a weak nest for your birdies.

Things to use: sticks, grass, moss, natural yarn and string, and even hair (sort of ewww…. but those birds love it)! You want to keep all string/yarn lengths under 3 – 4 inches. I have NO idea why. I just read this multiple times, so I stuck with it. Add all these bits and pieces to a suet feeder, thistle feeder bag, or even an old orange mesh bag and hang from a tree. We hung ours in a tree in front of our living room window… hopefully we’ll see those birds grabbing some nest goodies this spring!
