It’s Monday night and I just got back into Portland from a LooooooOOoOoOOooOoong weekend/day of travel. I was at the Texas Style Council, in Austin. It was an amazing weekend and I learned a lot. I was also inspired by all those stylish ladies I saw wandering the hallways. Truly, so many beautiful ladies (and a couple handsome men). All this fashion made me realize it’s been quite a while since I’ve done a “my style” post. It’s a collection of a few ‘wish list’ items. Buying new clothes is not currently in the budget, but I can pretend. Hee.

Tried it: How to tell when your steak is ready.

How to tell if your steak is done // thepapermama.com

I’m not really one to try and cook steak, but I sometimes (rarely) do. My husband loves to cook and I don’t, so why try? Kidding. I have heard for YEARS that you can compare steak doneness to the “squishy part” on your hand. I never understood this and just assumed anyone that told me to try that was crazy… until I saw pictures of how this is done on the Pinterest. This lady right here shared an image a couple years ago, and I finally found it + tried it. It works for me! I told my hubs about this method and he pretty much said, “Duh.”

Sooooooo, I may be the last person on the ENTIRE planet that didn’t know how to tell when a steak is ready, but just in case I’m sharing it with all of you. Have I changed your life forever? No? Hee. Side note: I like my steaks medium rare. Yum.

Getting Dressed // thepapermama.com

It’s a well-known Chelsey-fact: I’m happier and more ready for the day when I actually TRY to wear “real” clothes. Not jammies. Not the jeans from the floor + a t-shirt. Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy jeans and a plain tee… but dresses make me feel more fresh and happy. I love dresses, pretty shirts, and shoes. All the shoes. SO, that’s why I made my “Dress up at least 3 times a week” rule. I don’t always want to do this, and I’ve still gone 5 days IN A ROW wearing jammies, but when I follow this rule my whole day is better.

Getting Dressed // thepapermama.com

I know it’s just a bit of make up and a cute dress with adorable shoes, but it’s apparently what I need in this crazy life. Before I had my kiddo, I would never leave the house without some mascara (and definitely not in my pajamas). That’s just not reality for me now. I mean… wearing my nice clothes means more laundry and that I also have to actually try, when it’s so much easier to stay in the pajamas. So, my small goal to wear “nicer” clothes and makeup at least 3 times a week works. I know my hubs enjoys it. P.S. I love the Almay Color + Care™ Liquid Lip Balm. It’s a nice break from lipstick, which usually dries out my lips, but this lip balm does not.

Getting Dressed // thepapermama.com

That means 3 times a week I add this to my routine:

– Pick out a cute outfit, and actually put these clothes on.

– Put on mascara.

– Put on some lipstick or lip gloss.

– Go about my usual day.

I also try to make one of my 3 days land on the weekend, since my hubs and kiddo are there to hang out with and aren’t in their jammies. Ha!

“Yum” Cup DIY with Peach Melba Bellini Cocktail!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

"yum" mason jar cup // thepapermama.com

I love bubbly, but not the stemware you serve it in. I am super clumsy and tend to break most champagne/wine glasses. 90% of our stemware has left our home in pieces, or we’ve donated them before they break. That brings me to my “Yum” Mason Jar Cup. It’s pretty cute, quick to make, and hard to break. My kind of drink glass.

– To make this cute cup, get yourself some Martha Stewart Gold Glass paint and a mason jar. Draw on the word “Yum”, and maybe add a frame around the word. Let dry for an hour.

– To make the metallic opaque paint permanent, place the cup in a cool oven. Set the oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn the oven off and let the glass cool COMPLETELY in the oven. Note: glass needs to heat and cool gradually in the oven… so it doesn’t break. Wait 72 hours and use the glass for a Peach Melba Bellini Cocktail!

Now that you made a glass…. now you need something to put in it:

Peach  Melba  Bellini  (with fresh blueberries)

Kelly Ripa Peach Melba Bellini

Recipe adapted from Kelly Ripa’s recipe. Serves 1 person.

Ingredients:

1/2 oz. Peach Puree

1/2 oz. Raspberry Liqueur (I chose to substitute this with fresh blueberries)

Chilled Prosecco (or a dry bubbly if you don’t like super sweet)

Optional: Rosemary

Directions:

– Place 1/2 oz. of Peach Puree and the 1/2 oz. Raspberry Liqueur (or blueberries) to the bottom of your glass.

– Fill the rest of the cup with your bubbly (Kelly likes to keep her bubbly in the Elextrolux Perfect Temp Drawer because you can adjust the temp of this drawer to get those bubbles super chilly).

– Optional: If you love the taste of Rosemary…. add a fresh sprig to your cup! It’s a tasty drink to enjoy with some yummy cheese and bread.

Tina Fey's "A Mother’s Prayer for Her Daughter" // thepapermama.com

A Mother’s Prayer for Her Daughter, by Tina Fey.
