My last couple weeks in cell phone pics…

My last couple weeks in cell phone pics. My weeks are always so busy… I barely remember what we did! There was lots of playing… wearing hats on a cold day… drunk horses… getting jipped in the crayon dept… pajamas… FRIED chicken… cozy blanket time… Ruari’s first art class with a blog friend’s daughter… making stuffies out of my drawings… being super lame sick… and scaring my daughter with a bunny mask. Whoops. πŸ™‚

DIY sewing kit…. in a jar.

One of the most simple gifts ever! I love jars. I love putting things in jars. I love drinking out of jars. I like planting things in jars…. And, now: I love making kit gifts out of jars! I’ve seen these sewing kits wandering the Pinterest world…. AND, I had to try it for myself. Christmas is just around the freakin’ corner. Get ready now!
What’s in the sewing kit:
– Pins and needles (on top)
– Safety pins
– Small scissors
– Measuring tape
– Teeny tiny spools of thread
– A thimble
– And, that needle threader thingy (that’s what it’s really called…… ;D)
Supplies to create this:
– A fabulous thrifted jar with a lid
– The center piece of the lid (or, a piece of cardboard can be used if this part is missing)
– A piece of fabric (I used a 10″ x 10″ piece).
– Stuffing for the cushion
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
– A sweet “made with love” sticker from Pear Tree Greetings.
How’d I do it?
1. Taking the center piece of the lid (or cardboard): pile the stuffing on top and wrap the fabric around…. glue down the fabric to the opposite side of the lid piece. This should create a little cushion! note: don’t put too much stuffing in… it will be hard to do this next step.
2. Take your cushion piece and push it through the lid…. squish it through! You’re welcome to glue it… but, I didn’t need to.
3. Fill your jar with your goodies! Twist on the lid…. put some sewing pins in your cushion. πŸ˜€
4. Apply your Pear Tree Greetings “made with love” sticker. πŸ˜€
5. Give to a sweet friend this holiday season! I’m giving mine to one of my less crafty friends… I feel she made need a sewing kit. ;D P.S. I made one for me too!
Total cost of creating this sewing kit is: roughly $10. I bet if I did more searching/planning/buying in bulk… I could have put this together for $5! Awesome price for a gift! And, really… who doesn’t need a sewing kit? If I received this as a gift: I would love it… but, I’m weird… sooooo. πŸ˜‰
Let me know if you try this out! I seriously love to see when my readers try out my experiments. Leave a link in the comments below. πŸ˜€

Simple Pencil Skirt DIY

The other weekend I ran across this jersey knit skirt tutorial on Pinterest… and, I couldn’t help myself…. I had to try it. I ran off to the fabric store and purchased just over a yard of jersey knit fabric and some elastic for this experiment (total cost around $9).
So… I DO NOT sew… just like I don’t cook. Yeah, I think people can sew some pretty amazing things… but, it’s just not my thing. Luckily… my mom knows how to do pretty much anything crafty. She helped me with pretty much all of it (and did the elastic part for me… since there’s some technique to it she wanted to teach me). I definitely recommend having a second person around to help you measure… etc. Unless you already have a skirt you love and can just get measurements from. πŸ™‚
Overall: I’m SUPER happy with the results! It’s actually a super cute skirt! And, it really is very simple. I pretty much just made a tube out of the material and added elastic. I think next time I’d like to make the bottom of the skirt skinnier for a more pencil skirt look. πŸ˜€
Look… me sewing!

I LOVE to know when my sweet readers try out my experiments too! Let me know if you tried this out in the comments below!

{What I wore: sunglasses//Target, earrings//f21, dress//Target, slip//Anthropologie, belt//thrift, shoes//thristed Blowfish, handbag//a gift.}
{I was wandering through my photos and realized I completely forgot to blog about our date day! It was back in August…. WOW! And, now it’s October. BUT, it was one of the best dates we’ve had in a long time.}

{We wandered to a wine bar in Portland, Journey’s. It’s one of our favorite places to go…. it’s like our Cheers (everyone knows our name… ;D). On this day the Journey’s family was throwing a party for their customers…. free food… wine and beer-a-plenty… good music (The Basinbillies)… and lovely company. It was a great day! In addition to this great day… we also won the bocci ball tournament they had ::high fives all around:: Yeah, we’re good. Ha! Just lucky maybe…. we were playing a blind guy in the finals….}

{Below are the sweetest people… the owner of Journey’s. If you happen to find yourself in Portland…. check out Journey’s. You’ll love it.}
