Vintage Suitcase!

I don’t think it’s any secret that I LOVE thrift shopping. Yup, it’s pretty much a high for me. 😉 I recently found this sweet vintage suitcase for $4 (see below). I NEVER find vintage suitcases. Ever. Never ever. Well, sometimes I do… but, they’re priced at $25 or more and I’m just not willing to pay that much for an old suitcase I’ll probably just tear apart. 😉

So, here I am with a suitcase… and, what should I do with it? I wandered google and found some very lovely ideas. I’m definitely thinking I will do Rachel’s fabric cover… but, after that… what else? The hubby is voting for the little bar. I think I sort of like that too. But, it’s not that deep and may not work so well as the photo above… hmm. We’ll see. I bet some amazing idea will come to me in the middle of the night!

– I’m at Alt Design Summit this week! ::party dance:: So, I probably wont be able to respond to any comments till next week! Talk to you all latah! And, while you’re at it… don’t forget to enter for your chance to win $100 towards ModCloth from ME! –

I love vintage suitcases! These are fabulous ideas. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for them again. So far, the only ones I've ever found are the ones that are beat up and falling apart. Maybe that's ok? Maybe I need to do like you and seek out some stuff on google and figure out if it's workable. Can't wait to see what you end up doing.

Yeah, maybe the beat up suitcases would work too. I guess it all depends what you plan on doing with them. 😀

I agree with your husband; the bar is awesome! I have a love for vintage suitcases but I was floored by all of these ideas! Now I want to go out and find a whole slew of them! Makes me wish I had a cat too so I could make a bed for it. Thank you so so much for sharing these!

my mother has a suitcase exactly like that. her grand creative idea was to actually use it as a suitcase. i keep telling her to do something awesome with it. that way she can buy herself a new suitcase … with wheels (cause lets face it, my mom's getting too old to carry around a heavy suitcase). anywho, you may be a bit limited because yours has a slant to it. it wont make a good table top or stack super well. but im sure you will come up with something awesome. and when you do, please post pics. and if its really awesome, then i will buy my mom a new suitcase (with wheels) and steal hers so i can also be creative too 🙂

I absolutely loved this post! I have a real thing for vintage suitcases, and there were some great ideas here! I thought you might like to see a recent 'Paddington Bear' inspired portrait I took of my baby boy, avec a vintage suitcase. We usually just have the suitcase in our bedroom, which we use as a memory box. It contains every memory we think is precious. http://jackspapermoon.blogspot.com/2012/01/paddin

A good friend of ours collects old suitcases. We made a trip to some antique stores in a town a couple hours away last weekend and he found some amazing ones, at great prices. It made me want to start collecting them 🙂

I love picture #2 above. I was just browsing a blog this morning and she had three stacked like that as a night stand next to her bed. Now I'm gonna be on the hunt for some!

I need to come fly across the country to go thrifting with you! We don't seem to have anything very exciting over here. JEALOUS!

I am dying over that cat bed. What an amazing idea! It seems that the thrift stores around here only have junk. Omaha is not quite a thrifting town.
