Hair Tutorial: Knotted Sock No Heat Curl

I’ve said it before… my hair is SUPER straight. Pretty much my hair is so straight it barely holds a heated curl… in the summer. So, here I am… on a rainy day… 4 hours into wearing the Knotted Sock No Heat Curl… and, it’s still curly! ::high fives::
These curls are different than the headband no heat curl I tried out a couple of months ago. They are bouncier and more if a swirly curl… if that even makes sense. ;D And, I actually prefer these curls over the headband curls. BUT, what I don’t prefer… are the socks. They sorta bugged me most of the night. But, worth it! AND, to keep my bangs outta my eyes… I also did the Simple Twist Cascade Hair Braid. Very cute.
Overall: I love this no heat curl. Do not like sleeping with the socks in my hair. AND, instead of showing you how to do it… I’m just going to share this video tutorial below… Tip: after I washed my hair I added gel to it for an extra hold. And, when I spritzed my hair with water I made it even MORE damp than the girl in the video because of my stubborn straight hair. 😀

And… just a little reminder of how freakin straight my hair is:
AND, I love to know when you lovelies try out these hair styles! Let me know in the comments below if you do try it out and blog about it! 😀

My grandma used to do this on me when I was little but she used cotton strips, it gives a bit tighter curls, very bouncy and probably not as uncomfy as the socks…

That's how my grandma did it when she was little. I should give it a try sometime.

Would you recommend this or the head-band curl for extremely thick straight hair?

Hmmm, well I've seen ladies use 2 headbands for thick hair, with good results! Let me know which you try and how it works!

Just some styling gel, right out of the shower in wet hair. 🙂

OK, so when I was 12 years old, an exchange student from Germany showed me how to do the sock curls just like this. It always worked wonderfully on my hair, which is stick straight and really thick. I'm 33 now and use this on my daughter's hair too and she has been cursed with my hair.

Which do you prefer this no heat curl or the one where you use the headband? I tried the headband one and I worked pretty good, I just need to play around with it….

I prefer the headband. The socks were sort of uncomfortable to sleep in. 🙂

Hi! did you use Photoshop or any photoshop actions on these photos? I really like the colors. have a nice day! =)

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Hmmm. I don't think I used a specific action for these photos. But, I usually adjust brightness/contrast and ad a little have. I might have played with the color. Can't remember. 🙂

Be thankful you have straight hair that God has given you. So many people would die to have your hair. I also have straight hair and I'm proud of it. You should to! BTW- Your daughter is beautiful and you are very blessed.

Which would you recommend for extremely thin and straight hair, this no heat curl or the head – band one?

Ok, so i LOVE all your hair tutorials. I've tried several of the styles and love them. However, this no heat curl tut. . . There are no words. I also have stick straight, fine hair that usually doesn't hold a curl. However, I have been doing this (it has become part of my nightly routine) and I LOVE it. I get gorgeous curls or at the very least more volume to try some of the styles I wish I could do. A.mazing! Thanks so much! I am currently living in Africa and generally don't have electricity to use a curling iron or hair dryer. So this has been a great way to get lovely curls. THANKS, again!!!

I'm not understanding how you use the socks exactly.

Hmmm. Did you watch the video I linked to? I think that should help.
