Vintage Suitcase!

I don’t think it’s any secret that I LOVE thrift shopping. Yup, it’s pretty much a high for me. 😉 I recently found this sweet vintage suitcase for $4 (see below). I NEVER find vintage suitcases. Ever. Never ever. Well, sometimes I do… but, they’re priced at $25 or more and I’m just not willing to pay that much for an old suitcase I’ll probably just tear apart. 😉

So, here I am with a suitcase… and, what should I do with it? I wandered google and found some very lovely ideas. I’m definitely thinking I will do Rachel’s fabric cover… but, after that… what else? The hubby is voting for the little bar. I think I sort of like that too. But, it’s not that deep and may not work so well as the photo above… hmm. We’ll see. I bet some amazing idea will come to me in the middle of the night!

– I’m at Alt Design Summit this week! ::party dance:: So, I probably wont be able to respond to any comments till next week! Talk to you all latah! And, while you’re at it… don’t forget to enter for your chance to win $100 towards ModCloth from ME! –

Wordless{ish} Wednesday: My little 25 month old.

So, this last weekend I thought, “Oh, hey! Ruari is a month older on the 18th! She’ll be…. 25 months?” When do I stop? I have been doing monthly updates on my blog for my girl since she was…. what, 5 months? Now she’s one month over 2. Well, my girl HAS changed and grown quite a bit since her 2nd birthday.

It’s hard to believe… but, she is singing and dancing even more than she was 30 days ago. She knows the words to these songs: ABC’s, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. She sings them loud and in public and for anyone and everyone. She loves to dance. We dance a lot. Every day. We love music! The Dora channel on Pandora is definitely her favorite. She talks so much… I can’t even list all the words… she just ‘gets’ it. Seriously: talk talk talk talk talk ALL day long. FYI: she’s a big ‘ol copycat. She copies EVERYthing we say (gotta watch the curse words). Her favorite foods: raw broccoli, cheerios, raisins, bananas, peanut butter, pot stickers, and all fruit. She will not eat anything green (except broccoli), sauce, meats (except chicken). She tells us she loves us all the time. Gives kisses, hugs, and high fives. She has the most amazing memory (can’t trick her). We just cut the tip off her paci this last weekend…. so far: it’s going pretty well. Next up: potty training? Ha! Probably not. She’s afraid of the hole in the toilet. 🙂 Pretty much: she’s AWEsome. I love her. P.S. She started her 2-4 year old dance class this week. It was absolutely adorable.

Paper Terrarium Tutorial

Paper Terrarium Tutorial

This weekend my husband announced, “We cannot go anywhere this weekend. Because football.” SO, that meant I had some time to get some crafting done (because… I don’t watch football… unless it’s the Superbowl). I’ve been wanting and thinking of creating a terrarium for some time. BUT, I’m not too sure I’d be able to keep a live terrarium… alive. Heh. So, I introduce to you: the Paper Terrarium Tutorial. It does not require anything alive… AND, the items needed are inexpensive. Yay!!!!

What you need:

  • A glass container. I found mine CHEAP at a thrift store.
  • Moss. I got mine at a craft store. The bag filled 2 terrariums.
  • Floral foam. Just a small amount will do.
  • Tooth picks.
  • Hot glue.
  • Scissors.
  • String.
  • A couple of tiny twigs.
  • My Doe A Deer freebie printout.

What to do:

  1. First place your foam in your glass container.
  2. Then you can start forming your moss around the foam. I made sure to cover any foam spot that may show through the glass.
  3. Next, cut out all the paper pieces you’d like for your terrarium. I’ve included a couple of different sizes of deer and mushrooms for you to choose from. After they’re cut out you can hot glue the tooth picks to the backs of the cutouts. Glue your banner triangles to the string. Tie that string to the twigs!
  4. Arrange your paper pieces exactly how you’d like! And, you’re done!
  5. I made 2 terrariums and the rough total cost of each one is about $5. Woo hoo!

Paper Terrarium Tutorial

I had originally came up with this idea because my good friend Christina is getting married this summer, and she was looking for a way to create a terrarium for cheap. AND, I think I’ve found it. Another little idea I had for this is to add a little photo to the mix for a wedding center piece! Very cute… having different photos in each terrarium? Love it.
