Painted Sunglasses DIY

These cute sunglasses were a little find from a thrift store… maybe a year ago. I enjoy them just the way they are…. but, I felt they needed a little something extra! That’s when I thought, “Hey, how about painting with nail polish?” I have a ton of polish…. and, I have some precision tip Q-tips. Perfect!

Supplies needed to make these Painted Sunglasses DIY:

  • a pair of sunglasses
  • Q-Tips Precision Tips
  • a couple colors of nail polish (I used a turquoise, red, and blue).

The how-to:

1. Gather up the supplies. Dip your Q-tip into your nail polish. Let the paint soak into the Q-tip a little, dip it in the paint again and pop a little dot on the glasses. Repeat that step over and over (using as many nail polish colors as you’d like) until you’re happy with the amount of polka dots on your glasses.

I did need to do a couple of coats for the red dots. If you need to do this, just let the paint dry first (should be pretty fast drying time) in between each coat.

2. Add a clear top coat polish (using the same method as above with a Q-tip) to seal in the paint.

3. AND, you are done! Let it completely dry…. and, you are ready to look awesome in your newly painted glasses!

Get creative with your nail polish design! I think next time I will paint on some sweet little flowers. Please, let me know if you try this out! I’d love to see your end result. It’s a very simple and cheap DIY!

And, just a little funny side note: last year my mom mentioned that she didn’t really like these big sunglasses…. but, when I wore them the other day after their little makeover… she thought they were cute. Hee!

I was provided with Q-tips® Precision Tips™ cotton swabs, a $25 American Express gift card and information about the product by Rocket XL. All opinions are 100% my own. You can find more ideas on the Q-Tips Facebook page.

Just another day.

Here I am…. like every other night. On my computer… finishing up orders and catching up on blog posts. I’m editing photos I took from last Friday. It was a beautiful day in Portland…. a rare warm-enough day for March. So yeah, I wanted to get out of the house. I called up my mom and we headed to Sellwood. A cute little spot in Portland for a day of window shopping. We had lunch at a deli/bakery and wandered to Portland Homestead: farm shop in the city! Played with the chicks, goats, and ducks. Ruari loved it.

She skipped her nap that day (which has become the norm… sadly)… so, around 4 things went downhill…. meltdown city. That meant we had to head out. Another day ending with a meltdown. This is how it is these days. I have a toddler. A 2-year-old. Any and every thing I say is answered with a “No!” or “I don’t want to…” followed by the most dramatic meltdown e v e r.

I know it’s a phase, but they (you know, “they”. All the people that warned me about age 2) all told me it would happen: and, I didn’t really think too much about it. Yeah… maybe it will happen. Maybe not. Well: it’s happening. This past week has been an interesting week. My girl has been testing the waters and throwing some amazing tantrums: in public. Gah. Learning what to do… on the fly… in public with a crazy toddler? Goodness. That’s tough.

Timeouts have stopped working (damn!). She now asks for timeouts (that stinker). So, taking a note from Mandy, we now put her favorite toys in timeout. I think it’s working. We’ll see.

Pin-It Back hair tutorial

My pin-it back hair. I’ve been crafting this hair forEVER. It’s sort of always been my go-to hair-do. Basically: I pin back my bangs…. the side of my hair… a little bump in the back… and, then: a little side bun.

I really feel like there isn’t a right or wrong way to do this. You’re basically just grabbing pieces of your hair…. pushing it up for a little volume… and pinning.

How-to:

– Start with the bangs (mine are pretty long…. so, I pin them back…. you don’t have to do this if you have shorter bangs). Grab the bangs, push them up, and pin.

– Grab a side chunk of hair, push it up, and pin. And, repeat this on the other side.

– Grab a small chunk on the back of your head. Push it up and pin it. Seeing a pattern?

– With the last bit of hair: twist it into a bun and pin it to the side.

And, you’re done! Add some hair spray for hold…. pin any fly-aways. Add a bow. It’s very simple. A nice quick way to get your hair up and outta your face. Just a couple more steps than a pony tail or plain bun… but, so much cuter. Am I right? Hee.

Enjoy! And, as always: let me know if you try this! I’d love to see!
