Vacation

We spent the holiday weekend with family in Bellingham, WA. As usual, it was amazing. Relaxing. Fun. Full of wine. And, espresso. AND…. s’mores. Ruari had her first s’mores this weekend. I don’t think I need to really tell you she loved it… these photos say it all:

In Bellingham, they have something called, Ski to Sea. We like to wander up there on Memorial Day weekend to enjoy the festivities. We took a quick family photo… and, then the hubs and I snuck away for some baby-free time! We attempted a beer garden… when did we get so old? We both mentioned how loud the music was (old people). I know. But, altogether: it was a fantastic and relaxing weekend. Time to check back in to reality and catch up on some emails.

AND, today I have another post up on Better Homes and Gardens! I’m sharing how to add a chalkboard plate to your collection! Here’s a little sneak peak:

Wordless{ish} Wednesday: Things I forget…

Sooooo, back in early May I put my artwork on display, at Starbucks, for a month… totally and completely forgot to even mention it! Look, I took photos and everything. Hee! Well, I should be taking them down in a few days, but if you will be at the Orenco Station Starbucks, in Hillsboro (Oregon) this week… say hello to my illustrations!

Cute little party favors!

I mentioned last week that we had my friends wedding, bachelorette party, and shower all in one weekend… Well, the shower was at my home and I needed some quick and inexpensive favors. I ran to my local store and picked up four of those 6-pack annuals. 4 different types of flowers. I cut the packs up so I ended up with 24 individual flowers… wrapped them in some plastic cello sleeves I already had, tied twine around the outside, and put a little custom tag on.

I put all the flower’s info on the tags so their new owners would know where to plant them. So, the total cost of this little project came out to $12. I already had the twine and plastic sleeves, so no need to purchase those. BUT, they aren’t really that expensive if you need to buy them.

We displayed the favors in a tiered cupcake holder. Everyone loved them! The best part is… if any of these favors are left over… you just have plants (instead of a ton of candles or shot glasses…).

These would also be a pretty great favors for weddings. It was all so easy to assemble… and, the cost is around .50 cents each.

{CLOSED} OMG: Oreck Magnesium Giveaway!

Winner was picked! Cara from The Marvelous Flight of Cara.

OMG. Yup. I am now the happy mama to an Oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner Goodness. Our last vacuum probably weighed 500 pounds and sounded like an angry hippo (slight exaggeration). But, my sweet love (yes, that’s what I call this vacuum, my sweet love) weighs in at just under 8 pounds. I can easily pick it up to vacuum the sofa and my cats (ok, I don’t actually vacuum my cats. I just dream of doing it somedays… hairy kids. Do not vacuum your cats.).

Anywho, this thing is super strong! Gets all those roving hairballs that hide here and there all over our hardwood floors. This thing is so strong is just kept rolling along when I let go of it.

What about it:

This thing lays flat so you can get it under your furniture. Wha? Yeah. The cord: I wish it was cordless… BUT, I know it wouldn’t be as strong without it. So, I’m cool with it… it’s really long and I don’t have to keep changing plugs. There are 2 different power settings. Awesome. It’s made of magnesium…. which is stronger than most types of steel. Downsides: it uses bags. I know I can get used to this, but I prefer bagless. It’s pretty darn spendy, but I have a feeling we will have this guy for quite some time.

To be completely honest: I should let you all know that I have given this vacuum a hug. But, really. This vacuum is awesome. I’ve been the owner of many cheap-college-days vacuums. They never do anything right. The Oreck Magnesium has the right stuff (do you have New Kid’s on the Block stuck in your head now?).

P.S. Ruari really wanted in on all the photos I was taking… so, she set this photo up. Adorable:
