Faux Bob Hairstyle

Faux Bob Hairstyle // thepapermama.com

A new favorite of mine, the Faux Bob Hairstyle. I wore this a couple of times while I was in Texas. It’s great when you’d like to wear your hair down…. but it’s too hot to really enjoy your hair blanketing your neck. I love it. Here’s how you can do this with your hair:

1. and 2. If your hair is mostly straight, I suggest adding a bit of curl (all the way up to those roots). Add hair spray to hold those curls.

3. Backcomb the back of your hair a bit. I do this AFTER I curl my hair, since my straight hair will just lose all of it’s backcombing if I mess with it too much. Some people like to backcomb BEFORE they curl their hair.

4. Separate your hair into 3 equal sections. The right, left, and backside of your hair. Tie each of these sections of hair at the ends with hair ties. note: I’ve seen people only use one hair tie for this, but I have many layers in my hair + it’s pretty slick. Three ties works better for me.

5. Pin all three tied sections UNDER your hair on the back of your head.

6. Pin any fly aways, or add pins to enhance curls, etc. Add hairspray, done!

Enjoy!

Getting Dressed // thepapermama.com

It’s a well-known Chelsey-fact: I’m happier and more ready for the day when I actually TRY to wear “real” clothes. Not jammies. Not the jeans from the floor + a t-shirt. Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy jeans and a plain tee… but dresses make me feel more fresh and happy. I love dresses, pretty shirts, and shoes. All the shoes. SO, that’s why I made my “Dress up at least 3 times a week” rule. I don’t always want to do this, and I’ve still gone 5 days IN A ROW wearing jammies, but when I follow this rule my whole day is better.

Getting Dressed // thepapermama.com

I know it’s just a bit of make up and a cute dress with adorable shoes, but it’s apparently what I need in this crazy life. Before I had my kiddo, I would never leave the house without some mascara (and definitely not in my pajamas). That’s just not reality for me now. I mean… wearing my nice clothes means more laundry and that I also have to actually try, when it’s so much easier to stay in the pajamas. So, my small goal to wear “nicer” clothes and makeup at least 3 times a week works. I know my hubs enjoys it. P.S. I love the Almay Color + Care™ Liquid Lip Balm. It’s a nice break from lipstick, which usually dries out my lips, but this lip balm does not.

That means 3 times a week I add this to my routine:

- Pick out a cute outfit, and actually put these clothes on.

- Put on mascara.

- Put on some lipstick or lip gloss.

- Go about my usual day.

I also try to make one of my 3 days land on the weekend, since my hubs and kiddo are there to hang out with and aren’t in their jammies. Ha!

So, Almay wants to give one of you a special treat for coming by and reading. Answer this question in the comments below to enter to win a $100 Visa gift card:

“How do you get your favorite weekend look?”

Wearing the makeups: Plus a GIVEAWAY!

Fancy Time // thepapermama.com

Remember my little goal to dress up at least 3 times a week? I set this goal in February and I’m happy to say I’ve stuck with it. I get out of my lazy/yoga pants and step into something lovely at LEAST 3 days a week (sometimes it’s four or five). I can tell this small change has helped my self-esteem. It’s just so simple, but getting dressed in a lovely skirt and some pretty tights changes my mood. I can feel my energy level go up, and I just plain feel better. Most days I can only manage to get my kiddo into “real clothes” and I wander out of the house with toothpaste on my face. Yeah… I even forget to look in the mirror. This goal also includes putting a small bit of makeup on, at least 3 times a week.

The majority of the time my makeup routine only consists of putting on mascara. Adding some length and darkness to my lashes makes me believe I’m not as tired as I feel. Ha! When I’m feeling super fancy, maybe on date nights, I’ll add a bit of lipstick.

I have really dry skin, and for that reason I don’t use foundation or cover up that often. Especially all over my face. It enhances the dry spots…  <—– Not my goal. I also love my freckles and never want to cover them, buuuut I do love it under my eyes (and to cover up the occasional blemish). I’ve yet to find something that really works for what I want (and at a price I can handle), but Almay sent me some Smart Shade Mousse to try out. I love it!

Fancy Time // thepapermama.com

It’s pretty neat. It starts off white (as seen on my finger above) and quickly changes to match the shade of my skin, like magic. P.S. A little goes a long way. It’s light and soft, and it smooths out to cover the darkness under my eyes.

Fancy Time // thepapermama.com

I’ve been using it almost nonstop for a week now. Even on the days I choose to wear yoga pants (and maybe have toothpaste on my face). It may be difficult to see a difference looking at my before and after photos in this post, but looking in the mirror at home: totally see it. I’ll be dressing up FOUR times this week. Date night tonight with the husband! Yay! That means cute shoes, a dress, and makeup! No yoga pants this time. Maybe I’ll add some eyeshadow (I’m trying out the Almay intense i-color)?

Tell me, what’s your go-to date night look?

Self Portrait Challenge + Giveaway

self portrait challenge banner

Do you remember last year when I shared a self portrait photo challenge with all of you? Well, I think it was a fantastic challenge that had a TON of interest and participants! I’m SO excited to do this challenge again. I can’t wait to see all you beautiful bloggers/readers!

When you put yourself out there in the blogging world, it’s almost impossible to avoid any negative comments. You can receive 100 fantastic and encouraging comments, and all it takes is that one damn negative comment to bring you down. I hate that it’s that way, but goodness… it’s how seems to be (P.S. See this comic, from The Oatmeal). I get a negative comment… somewhere in my social media… “Damn, you’re so ugly!” and that seems to be the only comment I hold on to and remember. In a sea of positive and lovely comments, that one stupid commenter sticks out. I don’t like it, but it’s there in the back of my mind.

I love the challenge of a self portrait. Even though I don’t love every photo taken of me, I have a bit more control when taking a self portrait. A quick candid snapshot usually means my chins will come out to say, “hello”. Ha! A self portrait gives me more control.
