Spring stylin’

My Style // thepapermama.com

The weather is getting warmer, then cold and rainy, then warm again, and more rain, and then some more sun…. It’s Spring in Oregon! That means 25% of the time I might be wearing skirts or shorts! That ALSO means my legs, that haven’t seen sun in months, will be out to show the world how PALE they are. I’m talking: the sun reflects off them and it will blind you. It’s a hazard.

During the Fall and Winter I like to wear colorful tights, but not for Spring style. While I’m waiting for my legs to get a bit more color, I love to use tights. I have quite the collection, but for this outfit I picked out this pair of Hanes Nude tights (they cost under $6) to pretend my legs aren’t super duper pale. It’s like I haven’t missed any sunny days. It also covers the bumps and bruises I seem to get from being a mom.

Random story moment: One of my earliest memories of the first time I noticed someone wearing tights was when I was in kindergarten. I looked down at my teachers sandals and noticed a web of something over her toes… I asked her what it was and she said, “OH, those are just my tights. I wear them to cover all those crazy purple spidery veins!” You could say that this may have scared the poo outta me as a 6 year old. When you get older you get giant purple veins covering your legs? What?

Now I’m the thirty year old wearing tights. My kindergarten teacher had the right idea. Ok, are you into tights?

My little goal: dress up at least 3 times a week

Cateye Glasses // thepapermama.com

Since I’ve had my daughter, I always get into my “I don’t curr about what I wurr” rut. Translation: I just really don’t care about what I’m wearing. Yoga pants to the store? Yes. No makeup? Definitely. More sleep instead of a shower? YES. Buuuut, I don’t like getting into these ruts. I can definitely feel a change in my confidence/happiness when I start to slack in the style and makeup department. Clothes make me happy. Why don’t I dress up every day? So much easier to just be lazy and not give a damn.

No more. I want to get over this. I am not going to be overly ambitious and just set an easy goal to dress “nicer”  and wear makeup about 3 times a week. It’s been about 3 weeks of this and it’s going well. The more I push myself to get back into this routine, the easier it is for me to do. I’m a busy lady and I’d usually rather sleep in 30 minutes longer than get up/shower/put on real clothes, so it was hard at first.

I have also decided to dive in and get the glasses I’ve been WANTing for years. I’ve always wanted cat eye glasses, but have been afraid I couldn’t pull it off. Much like my old “fear” of wearing red lipstick, I think these glasses seemed like they might make me be more noticeable and I’m not so into being noticed. Silly. Old insecurities.

Anywho…. They don’t have lenses yet. I’ve been testing them out to see if I like them. My decision: yes. I’m getting lenses put in them. They are comfy and cute. It took a while to actually get used to them… since the majority of vintage eyewear is a lot smaller in width. I also know they will fit better when they are adjusted to my face/head. Hee. I know for a fact that my ears are crooked… so glasses (and sunglasses) are always crooked… which is why they seem crooked in these photos. Ha ha ha!

These little lovelies come from The Vintage Optical Shop. Unlike other eyewear shops, The Vintage Optical Shop actually sells VINTAGE eyewear. They are based in NY and have SO many beautiful frames to look at (and possibly buy).

Okay… are you a get dressed and wear makeup every day person, or not so much?

P.S. I seriously recommend checking out The Vintage Optical Shop, so many frames to enjoy. Have fun!

Three in one outfit: Aunt Louise + $100 Visa GC Giveaway!

I have traveled more in this last year than I have in the past 10 years before that. Every time I head out on a trip, I have this desire to buy all new outfits! I do not need to spend money on clothes for each and every trip (I mean, really), even though I want to. Ha! It’s just not necessary. I have a ton of lovely clothes at home and I try to create new and updated ways to wear the clothes I already have. WHICH means I need to take care of my clothes. My favorite pieces (my “fancy” clothes) are always hung to dry. I wash them in the washer, and line dry them to help preserve the quality.

In my attempt to save money and use what I already have, I like to see how many ways I can wear a favorite piece from my wardrobe. One of my best dress friends (yeah, my dresses and I are friends) is Aunt Louise. Yup. She’s been named. She’s fantastic. She’s lovely and sort of looks like she might have been made from the upholstery of a 60′s sofa…. oh man, I do love this dress.

Here’s my three-in-one outfit styling for Aunt Louise (P.S. I just did not want to put make-up on, so I now have a cat face):

Warm Weather: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Gold clutch: f21 // Shoes: Miz Mooz //

This is the perfect warm weather outfit. This dress is so comfortable and I love to wear it without a cardigan, as long as the weather is over 70. Ha!

Springy Weather: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Green bow sweater shirt: f21 // Gold scaly belt: thrift // Shoes: Lulu’s //

Sometimes I like to pretend this dress is a skirt…. that’s when I put on my little green bow sweater shirt and my amazing gold belt (a favorite thrift find).

Warm: // Aunt Louise Dress: Anthropologie // Scallop Cardigan: Anthropologie // Green Peter Pan Tights: h&m // Shoes: Skunkboy’s Closet //

This is my cool spring weather outfit. Most Oregon spring days are cool…. we get the random warm day, but mostly you’ll want a sweater (and probably an umbrella) while you’re out and about.

So, speaking of keeping my clothes… I was ALSO sent some Tide Pods. They are sort of like the lazy man’s detergent… which is fantastic! I’m personally not a fan of chores… laundry is right up there with cleaning the bathroom. Tide Pods makes my life easier. It’s a 3-in-1 detergent that cleans, brightens, and fights stains. Bam. Pretty much you just pop in that Tide Pods pac, and then you can stand out in your freshly awesome clothes. And they’re only 3-chamber unit dose on the market. Just one removes more stains than 6 caps of the liquid bargain brand. (Based on stain removal performance of one pac of Tide Pods vs. 6 doses of the leading liquid bargain brand base variant in a standard top loading machine.) I put these little pods in a cute jar in the laundry room. SO much cuter than a plastic jug of laundry detergent. Have you tried these yet?

One more thing: Tide Pods wants to give one of my special readers a $100 Visa Gift card to play with! Yeah! You can buy a new outfit and some Tide Pods! Just answer this question in the comments below: Tell me about something in your wardrobe that’s versatile and provides 3-in-1 style.
