Silly Face Easter Eggs DIY

Oh, the Silly Face Easter Eggs. I originally saw the idea to put a family photo on eggs here a couple years ago (and then again here last year) and I’m FINALLY getting to creating these. It was so fun. I decided to add a few extras with a bit of acrylic paint. Some cheeks. A mustache. Maybe a little hair bow. So easy. I think we will recreate these for Easter, and I will add the paint AFTER the kiddo is in bed and tell her the Easter bunny did it. Yes. Good plan. I’m so excited! I’ll also be stalking the facebook pages of my family members to borrow some photos for more Easter egg photos. A whole family of photo eggs. Ok, want to make these for yourself? Here’s how:

Supplies:

– 12ish extra large eggs

– tracing paper or vellum paper

– Mod Podge

– paint (colors are up to you)

– super fine point paint brush

– scissors and printer

– Optional: Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer

Directions:

– Boil your eggs.

– Pick out the photos you’d like to use (I suggest images with a full head/face in the image). If you have some Photoshop knowledge, use photoshop to cut the background behind the faces you want to use. If no Photoshop, no worries! Just use the whole image. Resize the image to make the head about 1.5 inches to 2 inches wide. Arrange your little images on a 8 x 10 size file. Put your piece of vellum or tracing paper into your printer and print the page. Side note: My printer is fairly new, so it handled the delicate paper pretty well, I’m not sure how this will work with other printers. 

– Optional: Use your Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer to spray a very light coat of spray on the print. Mod Podge tends to make printed image ink run. The spray will stop that. I didn’t use the spray, so it’s completely up to you. 

– Use your scissors to cut out the heads from your pictures. Use Mod Podge to adhere the faces to the eggs, plus a light layer of Mod Podge on the face. Let dry completely.

– Here’s the fun part. Use your fine point paint brush and paint to add some goodies to your eggs. I painted on little flowers, rosy cheeks, mustaches and beards, sunglasses, and bow ties to my eggs. I love how they turned out. The painting part took about 5 minutes for 10 eggs. Super fast and fun.

That’s it! You’re done. Let the Easter Bunny hide those eggs and have a grand ‘ol Easter.
