One year ago tonight. I hate thinking about it, but my kiddo had a febrile seizure. I have never felt as helpless and scared as I did in that moment. Not knowing what was happening with my kiddo and thinking the worst. We’d never heard of a febrile seizure before it happened to my daughter. The whole thing went down minutes before the New Year. We celebrated the start of 2013 in the ER. Luckily, it hasn’t happened since last year.
The most wonderful news is that my family is currently very healthy and we are looking forward to a fantastic new year. I wish you a safe and healthy holiday!

They are scary! My oldest had one when he was two. Totally stopped breathing and DID NOT START again. Had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital and then sent to the big Children's in our area! My youngest has had THREE. Every single one of them super scary, but he actually fell down the stairs when he had his last one. Hospital again. I'm so glad they are all past the age where they are likely to have them and have been febrile seizure free for nearly 3 years!

my son had one this summer, right around his first birthday. happened while i was nursing him. the absolute worst thing to ever happen to me. i'd also never heard of it before it happened to us, and so when all the ER nurses/doctors/EMTs were like "oh this is so common, no worries, it happens all the time" i was flabbergasted.
i will never forget the look on my little guy's face when that happened. i know you won't either. peace be with you, mama.

Every single time that I read the words "febrile seizure" it makes me cringe because my son also had one whenever he was 1 year old (and while I was driving!). While I have been lucky that it has never happened again, I still worry anytime that he gets a slight fever. I hope your daughter is lucky like my son and it was just a one time thing!
