Jillian Michaels: I love/hate you

Getting Fit // thepapermama.com

In May 2011, I decided to get off my buns and get back into shape. When I stopped pumping for my kiddo, I gained a lovely 20ish pounds in about 2 months. I stopped pumping… but kept eating the same amount of calories. Whooops. Before that point I had NEVER worried about gaining weight. Having a kiddo changed EVERYthing. Now I need to watch what I eat, and apparently I have to work out. I bet it also has to do with the fact that I’m 30 and no longer a crazy 25-year-old.

Anywho. I did the 30 Day Shred, by Mizz Jillian Michaels for 60 days. That was the best I had felt in YEEears. Mentally and physically. Then, after about 4 months of working out non-stop… I quit. I was tired of working for it. Slowly my energy level went down and more recently I’ve been feeling super out of shape and bleh. Bloated and bleh. I’m TIRED of it. I want my energy back. I want to not look tired all of the time. That’s why Tuesday is my first day of getting back into shape, and continuing. Changing my lifestyle

On Monday I purchased 2 DVD’s. Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and Yoga Meltdown. I plan on alternating between these two for 5 – 6 days a week. For now. Maybe I’ll move onto other things later? Who knows. This will be my start.

My goal is NOT to lose weight. It is to get in shape and feel awesome. Wish me luck

I'm still working on losing the weight from both my kids. Of course I keep spraining my ankle cause I'm a klutz. Good luck!

Ha! I love and hate her too. Some workouts are so hard but at the end I feel so accomplished, less stressed, and just good about myself. Saturday I found a JM video on youtube….Banish Fat Boost Metabolism….holy pandas! I thought it would have been in sections, like 30 day shred. Nope. 60 sweaty minutes. It was awesome and awful at the same time. Sometimes, working out isn't about losing weight. It's about mental well being and feeling good about yourself. And I love working out at home, even with my two kids running around me. I don't have to go to a gym. And, I kind of love doing a video because it gives me a super structured exercise routine. I like to change it up. 30 day Shred is a killer. My copy has come up missing…..hmm…..kids?!

I have the yoga meltdown and it makes me swear in the most creative ways but it does kick my butt into shape. Be prepared to not be able to lift your child for a solid week but by the end, everyone will be praising your bi's and tri's. (that's weighlifting talk, i think…)

If you love/hate Jillian, you might also love/hate Ripped in 30 and No More Trouble Zones. I also stopped eating things with flour six days a week, and that made a HUGE difference. Not that I am avoiding gluten, but if I can't have flour (bread, crackers, breading, cake, bagels, cereal, etc), I have to pick something healthier/more filling/less processed. Then on day seven, I eat five pizzas. 🙂

Good luck sister! Going for a walk every day will be good too. Walking is the best and easiest resource we have for feeling better.

You may have just pushed me over the edge to give this a try. I keep saying I want to check out this Jillian Michaels madness, but for some reason I haven't taken the leap. I needed the push and I think I'll run to the store this afternoon!

It's the only way I seem to get into working out. Jillian is Crazy. 😉

I have the Yoga Meltdown too and I enjoyed it for the most part, it was definitely a piece of work, haha.

I love/hate her too! the 30 day shred is such an amazing workout. I am currently doing something similar to it. I am losing a little weight but better than that I feel better and look better because I am more toned. Good luck to you!!

i'm so with you! about to turn 34 and have one child..although she is almost 6, so i suppose i need to stop blaming her, haha, and my metabolism is way different. i started doing 30 day shred back in 2009 to get in shape for a trip to costa rica. i was so happy with the way i looked and felt. it's still a favorite of mine. i have friends that do insanity and P90x, but it's hard to dedicate the time into those programs and be a working mom. it's easier to talk myself through a 20 min workout! i try to run 3-4 miles on my lunch breaks a few times a week. i also take yoga classes at the gym – hands on with an instructor is sooo much better than trying to crane your neck to watch a video. i also like jillian's no more trouble zones and six week six pack. good luck! it's always a struggle to find time and balance everything, but i always feel so much better when i'm taking care of me too. : )

Good luck Chelsey! I am a runner and I also just went back to yoga after a 10-year hiatus (WHAT?! I know… ) and I feel GREAT. Yoga has quickly reminded me that I have ABS!

Yoga has always been the best thing for me. I discover muscles in areas I never knew could be muscly.

This is my first time commenting on your blog (I've been a reader since 2011!!) but I couldn't help but cheer you on because I'm starting the same journey as you! I had a long talk with my husband last time and decided that things needed to change. I want to be able to run around after my daughter (13 months) and not feel winded after 30 seconds! Excited for us both and looking forward to your updates! I'm not sure if I'm going to go with either Jillian Michaels or Turbo Fire… Maaaybe both??
    Cheers mama XO

Yay! Good luck to you! I know Jillian worked for me before, that\’s why I chose her. I just need to make it a part of my life. I hate waking up early, but that\’s the only time I\’ll work out. I cannot do it at night. 🙂

    Wahoo! Go Chelsey!
I need to start working out too. I also feel tired all the time and I hate having no energy to run around with my kiddos.

It\’s hard when you have to stay awake with crazy kids running around. 😉

High five, chickee! Officially starting level 3 today. Day 21. Feeling amazing already!
Jillian kicks butt. She is really motivating! Great you are back on doing the 30DS 🙂

I post my post-workout pics on Instagram every day… So all my followers can be mad and go all out on me when I get lazy :o)

    Enjoy it!

    Smooches from Germany!

I just did Ripped in 30 this morning…I hear you. For a lower impact but totally killer workout, I love Mari Windsor's pilates DVD's. I've been doing her lower body one and it is seriously cinching my waist, plus it doesn't leave you huffing and hurting the next day like JM does.

    • The Paper Mama on said:

I\’ll have to check that one out. Jillian really kicks my buns.

      • Jen @ Ginger Guide on said:

Totally agree on the Mari Windsor pilates! I love doing those. Jillian Michaels makes me want to throw shoes at my tv which just isn't conducive to working out. I need shoes, ya know?

Good luck! I have Yoga meltdown and love it. (Just don't follow the one girl in the back…she is craaaaaazy flexible, and it's bad news to attempt to bring your leg behind your head!).
