This would be why I don’t have much to say on this lovely Wednesday:
I found this sweet little hutch yesterday, and I spent most of the day cleaning and organizing (out with the old and in with the new-to-me). I still haven’t decided how I’ll fix it up… and, it sort of smells like an old lady’s home. Hee. New knobs for sure, and fixing a couple damaged spots… but, then what? Color? Refinishing? Hmmm…. Thoughts?

Great find! My mom refinished a vintage bureau for me a couple years ago and just put stain over the base wood and it looks great. One of my favorite pieces. I can't wait to see what you decide to do!

I'm a paint fan myself, especially if your antique piece is one that was mass produced and not one of a kind or limited makes. I'm working on a sideboard myself right now. You can wipe the whole thing down with white vinegar/water and let it air dry to help rid of any musty odor!

Such a great find! Color me jealous! Have you tried restor-a-finish on it? It's amazing stuff and could really bring the original finish back to life (I only paint wood when it's so far gone that nothing can be done to it, but that's years of my dad telling me to never ever paint wood talking, hehe).
I know… I can hear all the antique shop owners in my head, "I die a little inside every time someone paints an old wooden piece of furniture." I've seriously heard a version of that from about 4 shop owners. Ha!

I think the honey finish on this hutch is beautiful. I wouldn't change that! It'll be interesting to see the restoration of your new piece of futr furniture. Oh my gosh, I love this hutch – the style is perfect!! I would probably paint it a faint robin's egg blue just because i'm obsessed with that color in the kitchen. I've also seen it where people leave the wood but then put cute fabric over the glass panes to spruce it up. So many possibilities!
I love robin egg's blue too. And, I may consider the fabric over the glass…. Hmmm. So much to decide! 😀
This is going to be SOOO cute when you are done with it….can't wait to see the finished product.

I can't wait to see it finished – my sister in law had old cabinets that kinda looked like this and they did a stressed wood looking thing, DIY. They came out amazing.
