Dress Redo

Last week I found this dress on the clearance rack for $10. I REALLY didn’t like the top portion of it (so unflattering/uncomfortable), but the bottom flowy skirt part was lovely + I loved the floral print. While at the store I stared at the dress for a few minutes and, like the weirdo I am, I pulled the dress up over my clothes to see how it would look as a skirt. I really loved it. So, after many side eye looks from my daughter… I purchased the dress.

The cool thing about this dress redo… the waist already has elastic in it! SO I simply trimmed in between the stitching, folded in an inch at the skirt top, and sewed little stitches around (to keep it from flipping up). AND, done. I’m pretty darn pleased with the end result. I just added a little belt for extra support (you never know when someone may pants you… ha).

Ta da!

Gah, I can never find dresses that fit me and it never occurred to me to hack off the top and make a skirt (skirts are the second hardest to find). Granted I don't know how to sew but I think you've just convinced me to pull out my grandmothers old sewing machine (complete with table!) and get to work!

Super cute and sounds easy to do, too! As soon as I'm off of bed rest, I'm heading to the local thrift store to find a dress to try this out on! :D

What a great way to get clothes you like! I never think of redo's when shopping. I most obviously should. It looks great Chelsea.

Such a great idea! I HATE dresses with tops like that. I'm large on top and I look AWFUL in them. I have turned down so many pretty ones to avoid tops like it. Thanks for the idea!

Wow, it's amazing how different it looks as a skirt. The dress looks much more young and the skirt looks ever so mature and perfectly pretty! :) I never would have thought to cut the bottom of of a dress to refashion into a skirt. Thank you for the inspiration, as always.
