When asked the question, what would your do over moment be? What would you say?
My do over moment… the first tattoo. Yeah. That darn thing. I wouldn’t change the experience (my friend, Kelsey, and I had so much fun). Buuut, I would definitely put more thought into it. I mean really…. a tribal butterfly on my hip? Why? Well, because I was 18 and I could get a tattoo. That’s why. Silly.
How did I pick out this beauty? Well, I went home and Googled, “Tribal Butterfly Tattoo” (Yes, there was internet back then). This guy popped up in my search. I thought, “Yeah! I want that on my hip! That’s phat.” Well, I didn’t say phat… I never got the whole “phat” thing. ANY who… I digress. Kelsey and I headed to the tattoo shop… she got a chinese symbol on her left hip and I got a butterfly on my right. We are awesome. The lady that tattooed us clearly did not care at all. It was a terrible ink job. Truly. I think she was just happy to get those two random 18-year-olds out of there.
Someday I may try and fix it. I don’t know. No one can see it. So, it’s not really an issue. I just know: if I could skip getting the most random of random tattoos ever… I would. Plus, I don’t think 18-year-olds should be allowed to get tattoos without some sort of 1 year waiting period… ‘You want t a tribal butterfly on your hip? That’s great! But, there’s a one year waiting period for you to think it over. K?’
Any tattoos you regret? Barbed wire, old boyfriends, or tribal butterflies? Hee. I guess the good part is you can always get them covered up.

Bahaha! I also have a butterfly on my right hip. It was my 18th birthday and my bestie and I were walking down the mall and decided we wanted to do something cool. We already had our belly buttons pierced and knew we couldn't get away with anything we couldn't hide from our families, so we decided on tattoos. We went to a local shop and picked out butterflies as well. So cliche! Ahh well. Live and learn, right?!
I have a human bite mark tattooed on my outer forearm. It legit looks like someone walked up, grabbed my arm, and took a big bite. I got it as kind of a joke when I was 18 and it was really cool getting so much attention and the shock factor alone was enough to entertain me for about a year. But now, not so much. It is a constant source of frustration and irritation for me and now that I have my daughter it's even worse. I wear a band-aid over it at work but that doesn't help much since then I have a million people asking me how I hurt myself, and then what my tattoo is when I tell them I'm just covering one up. Eff you, 18 year old me, eff you.
yep, first tatt is a do-over.
I got it on my ankle, chinese writing, age 18….and had it covered up at age 28.

I regret one of mine and mostly because my roommate and I got matching ones. A year later we were not friends anymore. Boo.

OMG YES!!! I got what was supposed to be a dragon on my lower back, not quite a tramp stamp…..but the guy didn't care at all, like you mentioned….wanting random young girls out of the shop. But also agree, wouldn't change the experience….i was in Texas (visiting from CCanada) and my friend offered to pay for it, so i just picked something off the wall!! Terrible!!!
Now it looks like a blob, nothing resembling a dragon. And to make it worse, i have no meaning behind a dragon in the first place!!!!

Oh being 18 and having the right to go out and get tattooed on your own. *sigh* Needless to say my tattoo regret is the one I got at 18.
It is a thorny, wreathlike "thing" on my back, between my shoulder blades. I've had plans to get it covered up but haven't gotten around to it, probably because I don't see it. But I promise one day I wil, its so hideous! I like the 1-year waiting period for 18 year olds and I'd like to add a one year waiting period for anyone requesting anything tribal no matter how old they are.

I don't regret any of the tattoos I have, but I think I might have waited to tattoo my stomach until AFTER I had kids. But then again, it doesn't look that bad for being so stretched. Oh well!
Oh well is right! We can always add to them. Make them even more awesome. 😉
I don't really regret any of my tattoos, but I did cover up my very first tattoo. It was on my left upper arm/shoulder, and it was a star with a night sky scene inside. It was really cool when I got it when I was 16 (thanks mom!) and it was drawn just for me, but it wasn't done fantastically, and as I got older, it just looked kind of silly stamped there on my grown up shoulder. So last summer I started my half sleeve to cover it up and now I have some really great work.
BUT – I do have a tramp stamp that needs reworking. It healed so terribly that it's kind of blotchy and pastel looking. One day I'll figure out what to do with it. It rarely sees daylight or the public, and when it does, it's usually drinks and pool time, so whatevs. 😉

I havent got a tattoo yet but i am really thinking about getting one. I want something to symbolise the girls but im scared ha! i might just have "i was the sea" somewhere as it comes from a phrase that i dedicate to my ladies 🙂 x
Think about it. Research a good artist. Think about it some more. Then, decide if you still love it. 🙂
I have a dragonfly tattoo on my hip that didn't make it out of my last pregnancy alive. A strecth mark when right through it's skinny body making it a fat body with tiny wings so my "oh so pretty" dragonfly now looks like a month- very "Silence of the Lambs". Not cute- not cute at all.

I think everyone sort of hates their first tattoo. Unless you got it when you were older and actually put more thought into it, but I got my 1st one when I was 20… Star on my shoulder. I don’t hate it but it’s definitely not as awesome as I thought it was back in the day. Ha.

I waited forever for my tattoos since nursing school was sucking up all my funds. I love them and am really glad I waited. I’m with you on the 18 year old waiting period! I’m so glad I was broke.
Too bad I found a place that would do it for $40.
oh man. i have a CROWN on my hip. i cant even remember why but all the connotations it holds now are just awful. ugh.

I feel the same way. I have a tattoo on my lower back of a sunburst. It's fairly well done and it had some (reaching) symbolism attached to it but I often think…what the heck was I thinking?? Ah, well. Maybe we can use them as visual lessons to our daughters? Although mine loves catching sight of mine and squeals in delight, so….maybe the novelty will wear off at some point. 🙂 haha! So my husband has a plan for when our daughter says she wants a tattoo. He will get the exact tattoo she wants, in the exact same location on his body (because, we’ll be old by then, so, Hello Kitty ankle tattoo? who cares?)… if she still thinks it looks “cool” after a month, he will pay for hers. I think its a good plan, but it assumes she’s gonna tell us, which no self respecting 18 year old would do, right?? 🙂

no tattoo regrets here! my first i got when i was 18, it has no meaning, but is cute! it's also in the middle of my upper back so it can be covered when need be. i in fact just went & got another for my bday yesterday!

Yep. I made the horrible mistake of tattooing my ex's name (thankfully not in English). I was young and in love, but now looking for someone to do a cover up…. so not worth it. I haven't gotten a second tattoo because I obviously cannot be trusted.
Ha ha! Maybe you could cover it up with a "The Paper Mama" tat over? 😉

Oh and I'm sure I regret at least half of my hairstyle choices back in the 80s…some into the 90s. Like the time I stripped my haircolor and it turned orange and then wouldn't take any new haircolor because it was so saturated with chemicals. Sadly, my brother's first wedding pictures (as in he's been married more than once) have lasting proof of that disaster.
See, now that's why I still don't have any tattoos (OK and maybe that pesky fear of needles thing)! I'm afraid I'll have instant remorse!
I am very afraid of needles… but, It's not that bad. Just burny/stingy/fire. 😉
I got my tattoo on my 18th birthday, i got tinkerbell, because I have an attitude like her! LOL. Luckily my parents were so against me getting a tattoo and told me i would regret it, etc. so I made sure to think about it and made sure i wouldn’t regret it! 🙂 However.. it is on my hip (back side) and since I have gained quite a bit of weight since I was 18 tinkerbell has grown quite large… 😉
I just did it without telling my parents. 🙂
OMG…i got a tattoo at 18 also on the lower right side of my back…when I was 27 I tattooed over it because I hated it so much.

I only regret the first one i got although very small and not really unfortunate… it was in a dudes house i had met twice and i was 16… a little pink star with a black outline on the inside of my right ankle… woohoo i was KOOL with a K! i thought about covering it up but honestly i don't want a bigger tattoo there, so i just deal with it. i refuse to waste money fixing the fading though… could be worse i guess!

Yes! Send it! REAAAALLLLY think about it. I love all my other tats. BUT, that first one… why? I put more thought into the others. And, don't get anything "trendy"… like tribal. ::sigh::
Ha ha I feel like most of the people I know regret their first tattoo. Happens all the time. I never got any tattoo's because I have a huge problem committing to anything. I can't see that there would be anything I would want on my body forever. But I love tattoo's on other people!!! Especially your Ruari tattoo! So cute!

Yup, I have a star on my hip that was the exact same scenario you described, TERRIBLE ink job. It looks deformed now. Someday I'll fix it.

I can totally relate! I have one on my hip as well and let me tell you, it looks amazing right next to my c-section scar lol. It was done pretty bad too, I always say I will get it fixed, I guess I am just too lazy 🙂
