Wordless{ish} Wednesday: Reading

{Headband c/o: Three Bird Nest}

Oh. Hi! Yup, that’s me reading. On my little iPad. Before I had Miss R I would read a book a week…. not joking. Sometimes 2 books a week. I loved it! When I was preggers I had a lovely excuse to just lay around (especially since I was on restricted movement) and read 1.2 million books. So many.

My crazy book reading habit started back in grade school when I discovered Goosebumps. Oh man. I lost it. I read those so fast! Hee! They were so much fun. I specifically remember sitting on a park bench in 4th grade…. reading through an entire book. And, starting the next Goosebumps short after that!

The last time I was up in Washington visiting my sweet blogging friends…. Mandy and I wandered to a thrift shop. We found ourselves in the book section (cheap-o books…. right?) and, we started chatting about our fave reads. While I’m more on the nerdy/dork sci-fi side…. Miss Mandy has been reading quite the collection of books I’ve also had on my to-read list. First would be A Million Little Pieces. Yes! I’ve been wanting to read that goody for quite a while…. and, Mandy loaned it to me. So, it’s my next to read (right after I finish reading Pride and Prejudice and Hunger games again…. almost done!).

Mandy also just blogged about joining a site, GoodReads. I love it. Perfect to keep your books and reads all organized and rated! The rating system is wonderful…. since, sometimes I forget if I enjoyed the book or not.

So, I joined this site. If you’re a big ‘ol book worm like me…. you can find my profile here! I still need to wander through the website and add each and every book I’ve ever read. Join me right here!

Happy Wednesday!

So excited to friend you on GoodReads. I probably spend more time on there than I do Facebook.. LOL

I didn't read much when I was pregnant (except for pregnancy books) and the first 4 months of Mason's life and I missed it SOOO much. Now, thanks to GoodReads, I'm currently in a challenge to read 104 books in 2012 and am right on track!

I'm so glad more people are on Goodreads! It's a great little site. I added you!

I have always been a serious bookworm and love to read as much as possible. I saw you call yourself a nerdy/dork sci fi girl. Just wondering, have you read A Song of Ice and Fire Series? My husband got me hooked on them, they are so addicting. They are a fantasy series set in a fictional kingdom about several household fighting for power. They're long…7 books of about 800-1000 pages, but so good. I'm on book 5 and telling everyone I know about them!

Oh goodness! YES! That's on my to-read ASAP. Have you seen the HBO show? It's pretty darn amazing.

I've only seen the first episode, but is was SO good! I was really impressed with how they visually interpreted the book! And the casting is really spot on. The whole first season is on our to-watch list.

Nice. I'm a bookworm too. I already have a Goodreads account so I'll find you over there!

I'm a big book worm, too, but lately I find it hard to actually read a book from start to finish (I blame my son, husband and cat for most of the distractions); one of the best things I've done is join a book club. That way I actually have to finish the book so I know what everyone is talking about! 😀

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Ha! I would be the worst book club member. It just takes me too long these days!

Thanks to the Kindle reader on my iTouch and a 45 minute bus commute twice per day, I've been able to read a whole lot more. After the kids were born, I didn't find a lot of time to read. Now I'm crunching through tons of books where I wasn't able to before. Oh and now I'm following you on Goodreads 🙂

    • The Paper Mama on said:

That's so great! It's seems like a long commute…. but, a wonderful chance to catch up on some good reads! I'll head over to follow you on Good Reads too! <3

Goosebumps! I was never allowed to read those when I was a kid and it made me so mad. All my friends got really into them and my parents were like, "NO FREAKING WAY". One time I won a Goosebumps party pack on Radio Disney and I was afraid to tell my mom. When the box arrived, she made me throw away the books and the videos (not before she checked to see if she could use them to record TV shows, haha). She let me keep the sleeping bags because they didn't have Goosebumps stuff on them and let me keep the TCBY cake because passing on free food would just be stupid. She laughs at it all now and I do to, but man. Talk about major 12 year old bummer.

I haven't read Hunger Games but I've been hearing a lot about the movie. Apparently it's supposed to be really good and they are saying it's going to be a big deal. I'm excited to see it!

    PS> MISS YOU.

Hi pretty lady! That would have been so sad! I think my mom thought, "Hey, she's reading. That's a good thing." Ha! So scary…. but, so fun.

What a cool site! I've joined and I'm sure it will become my new internet addiction! But a good one if it gets me reading again.

I have added you to my friends on Good Reads. Wohoo! Isn't A Million Little Pieces the book the guy passed off as a memoir to Oprah's book club that turned out to be made up?

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Yup. That's the guy! But, I guess it's still an amazing book. 😀

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Hello! And, nice to meet you!

My reading has definitely lessened since kiddo appeared. In fact…. I only manage to read a page or two each night…. then, I fall asleep. Ha!

  • Mindi on said:

I love to read too. So many good books to read so little time, especially when you have small children. I was a bit older when goosebump books came out. My favorite books as a kid were the babysitters club series and all the Ramona Quimby books.

  • lifeislovee on said:

Yes! I still have all of our (my brother &mine) old goosebumps! I pretty much have most of my children books. I'm saving them for my future kids haha! I am sooo joining that site, what a great idea!

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Hee! My poor husband suggested I get rid of them…. I couldn't! I got rid of other books…. just couldn't part with those. 🙂

  • liz on said:

oh, i miss being a book worm!! i used to be in the same boat, usually two books a week. then, three kids later, it takes me months to finish a book. le sigh.

i do love to read though and i'll try almost all genres of literature. i have actually found i like sci fy as well. do you ever read margaret atwood? i think you may like her 😉

  • Lauren on said:

I just love finding avid readers! Books are wonderful wonderful escapes.

Would you mind answering some questions about book for me, for my blog? I'll email them to you, at any rate, and if you have time or they strike your fancy, I'd love to post them. I've been doing a somewhat sporadic series about people and their books … 😉
