Katniss Reaping Hair

Katniss Reaping hair thepapermama.com

This weekend I stepped out to view the fabulous movie: The Hunger Games. That book is such a favorite of mine. I’ve read the series twice now and, yes…. I really love it. All the characters. The story. All of it.

Before seeing the movie I alway sort of imagined what the delicate reaping day hair style of Katniss really looked liked. So, today I share my version of the Katniss Reaping Day hair. Just a simple twist braid around the head ending in 2 buns on the side (I know… I like side buns. hee).

Step 1:Β Normally I have straight hair… but, I just happened to do my No Heat Curl the night before. It adds volume. Start the braid at the top of your head where your hair line is. Begin your twist braid. The twist braid is using two sections of hair and twisting it! Just grab bit of hair as you go along to secure it. If that’s still confusing. I made a little braid your bangs video a while back and share how I do the twist braid. Check out the bottom of the post for the video.

Step 2: Continue your twist braid around to the other side of your head (right below your ear). Roll that twist braid hair into a bun and pin it. And, with the remaining hair above the ear…. twist that and roll it into a bun and pin it above the first bun.

Step 3: You are finished. My little version of the reaping hair.

This style took less than 10 minutes to arrange. A bit of hair spray holds it in place. The end.

P.S. If you need a little help with the twist braid… I explain it a bit in this video.

I wore this today, got a bunch of compliments. I hadn't watched your video before and realized I twist in the other direction, I twist toward the back/top of my head instead of toward the front/bottom, not sure it makes a big difference though. Here's how mine turned out on my Pintrest http://pinterest.com/pin/97812623127141745/

I twist in both directions. Don't know why. Ha! And, you're hair looks lovely! It's so thick! Love it.

That gif is tripping me out – love it. ANd I love the style, but doubt I'll ever pull it off. The brad gets me every time.

Thank you! It was a thrifted table cloth. I always wander to the sheets/tables cloths sections in vintage shops.

Great job! love the hair style. I’ve also read The Hunger Games twice. Loved it sooo much. I still need to see the movie. I’m a bit scared to see it because I have such high expectations and I don’t want to be dissappointed.

I had really high expectations too. BUT, I think for a movie that they did a pretty darn good job. Nothing can beat the book though. πŸ™‚

The first picture slide show is SO FUNNY! I'm dying to see that movie but wanted to wait for the hubs to see it with me, so that's tough…with babysitters and all. LOVE your hair and how much you do with it! I'm super proud I got to even blow dry mine this morning lol.

    • The Paper Mama on said:

Ha! I never blow-dry mine. BUT, I'll put my hair up later in the day. Plus, I was a terrible wife and ditched my husband to see it with a friend since we didn't have a babysitter. πŸ˜‰

I can't WAIT until my hair is long enough for braids. And your braids are the best.

I love this. Just colored yesterday and am not ready for a wash. This will be perfect for today! Thanks! Plus, Katniss is my homegirl.

*Sigh* about the only hair I could vaguely accomplish right now would be Rue's hair! If Amelia's hair was just a eence longer I could do it with hers. I saw the movie and was conflicted on how I felt about it. As a matter of fact, I posted about it today πŸ™‚

That's really cute, and it would be perfect for the Texas sun/heat! I need to be more creative with my hair. Most days I just pin back my bangs and go.

Me too. Should I do an Effie Trinkett hair tutorial? Ha!

Such a great DIY post! I wish my hair was long enough to do this, I thought Katniss' hair was SO lovely in the movie and totally stayed true to her hair in the books. I saw the movie last night and LOVED. πŸ™‚
