Every year my girlfriend’s and I get together for our annual cocktail party! We are now on year 11 (we’re old ;D). Out of these 11 parties I’ve only missed one of them…. that would be the one year where I was recovering from a major life risking surgery for Ruari’s birth in 2009 (so, I had an excuse). The parties are nothing fancy…. just great friends getting together to celebrate the holiday…. and eat a LOT of food and have many wine.

So, it’s always potluck style… this year I brought my delicious bean dip (it’s seriously AH-mazing… I’ll share my super super simple easy recipe later) and a sweet little chocolate bundt cake! The really neat thing about the cake I brought is it was totally a box cake… that mike and I altered! We took a box of duncan hines devil’s food cake mix…. and substituted/added a couple things! Instead of oil we used mayo (totally healthy), added a 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper for some zing, brushed on a little rum on top of the cake for no real reason… just cause we could, and then sprinkled on some kosher salt on the frosting! It was SO good! Obviously NOT kid friendly… but, super Chelsey friendly! I loved the little bit of salt sprinkle on top of the really sweet frosting! And, it paired very well with all the wine we enjoyed. 🙂

This party is just a lovely tradition my friends and I have. Usually it’s kid-free… but, we can’t always get babysitters… That’s ok! We had 2 kids this year (Ruari was home with Grandma this year). She goes to bed at 7… and, we tend to stay up till 1 or 2 for these parties. FYI: I do not do very well when I stay up late anymore! I still wake up at 7 am or so…. why? Crazy.

What traditions do you and your friends have?
